OK, now how did I get here? I was reading some of Shyam Nambiar's racy, rocking reviews and wound up in Kochi and found myself staring at an empty "Cookie Shop" submenu. and I felt, this HAS to be filled!
OK: #1: The Cookie Shop is not a restaurant, its a cake and pastry(and cookie) shop.
Then Why am I reviewing it?
Well, I am something of a gourmand(a polite way of calling one a glutton)and I have tasted many a pastry from Smokie's in Mangalore, to Sweet chariot in Bangalore.( all pretty much close to Nirvana:)mmmmm!) and I feel the black forest in the Cookie shop is the best, and the best value for money anywhere, and that is saying a bit!
Location:
MG road, just after the Grand Hotel, on the left if your are heading towards north
Phone Number:
91-484-2368255, so if you want to order a Kg of Blackforest right NOW!
Specialities:
A really good black forest pastry that literally melts in your mouth and that at an amazing price of 250 per kg. really paisa vasool.
A nice Sacher torte.Yes, Sacher Torte in Kerala, but no apricot jam as in the original
Good butterscotch pastry,
Original Chocolate eclairs(remember those in the famous five or any Enid blyton novel, or Richmal Crompton's William?) These are the original eclairs(not the cadbury ripoff, though I like those too!) A puff pastry, filled with whipped cream and topped with glistening chocolate. divine. or devilish?
The cookies? Of those? Only so.so. The chocolate chip are below par(Hide and seek Milano are much better)
Coffee and soft drinks, quiches, samosas and sanwiches. Not bad
Decor:
Nice around 8 tables for a cuppa and a snack, clean and pretty neat, but I hardly ever saw anyone there when I go!
Pocket effect: Very reasonable and worth the price . Just 150 to 250/kg which is very reasonable for what you get
Service: Pretty Good for a shop. this isn't much of a cafe. how do these names get here anyway?
So if you have a birthday coming up and you want something really good at a price that wont bust the bank, call this number and give it a try.
Ann's is great too("High Proportion", I think, is the name of their signature death-by-chocolate confection) as is the Taj, but this is pretty equally great and 50 to 75% cheaper too!
