What happens when the media hype generated for a film is so great that you think its the best thing to have happened in the whole of this year's movie-scene? well what do you do?? and what do you do when you find out that the movie is a dudd.!!!
Excuse me if I am being harsh but I seriously repent the fact that I spent the better part of my afternoon today watching a movie like CONSTANTINE.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
We are obviously aware of the catholic belief that suicide is an unpardonable sin..that a man who commited suicide would never be acknowledged with the grace of god and hence he would be facing the fire of hell (where his flesh would be devoured by demons and beasts and he would be scalded forever). Keeping this belief in mind lets talk about the ''spear of destiny'' the supposed blade that would herald unto its possessor the control of the world itself.
John Constantine (played by keanu reeves...everyone knows about him... but for those blind people who don't well he was in the matrix trilogy very recently and shot into superstardom after speed) is a psychic... he can see the angels and demons...lucifer and god and all the creatures in between... the situation is such that angels and demons may only exert their influence on but ideally should never possess a human body... but very lately he has been noticing that certian exorcisms he have been performing are because demons are flouting the laws and possessing the humans.This gravely disturbs John, but he is unaware that in mexico the spear of destiny has been unearthed and the malevolent force of lucifer's son is directing the possessor to act on his behalf.
In the meanwhile devout catholic police inspector angelica (rachel weisz...of the mummy and about a boy fame) has faced a terrible personal loss and it is through this incident that she comes face to face with the reality that constantine lives with everyday and together they embark on an adventure spree which is at once spine chilling and keeping-us-on-our-toes type.

Please do not tell me now that I have convinced you to watch the movie... well for those biblical enthusiasts and horror movie lovers who think the movie has quite a fetching storyline I warn you please don't. This film is by no means ''the exorcist''meets ''the matrix''as it has been touted to be.It is rather a paisely attempt at making a film out of a juxtaposed storyline.It even does not come along as equally entertaining as the mummy.
The special effects are also nothing worth talking about.Although I liked the eagle wings for the angels. that's a cool effect when gabriel displays it for the first time. watch out for it.
Keanu Reeves and rachel weizs are convincing in their roles as the psychic and the cop... but the bridge between their conviction and our believing is supremely washed out by the way the film has been executed that after sometime one may actually start to wonder that why on god's name
would anyone make this film
why would anyone act in it

Well now I guess I have to give the reason why we did end up watching it.. all the 11 of us...
well one of our friends..lets call him mr S is a very innocent boy..he doesn't look at girls neither do the obviously needful guyish activities...like swear...have a crush, etc...stupid I know...but great material to pull legs with. now this mr s says that he likes rachel weizs and thinks that she swells (and all that guys tell about the woman they like on screen)... so we said fine man come hail or high water we would definitely be there to see you oggling your primtime attraction so that we can finally believe that you are really not gay.So here we were all 11 fools bunched up together to come to see our shy friend and in the process be royally robbed and bugged in the process.
Even after our sorry fate and my harrowing review should anyone care to watch the movie.. here's one piece of good advice... NO MATTER HOW GOOD THE FIRST HALF MAY PROMISE, DO NOT HOPE FOR ANYTHING OUT OF THE SECOND.
