This happened on the 2nd of September 2009, the day my son was born in Columbia Asia Hospital, Hebbal. My wife got labour pains that morning and we rushed to the Hospital. We reached there at about 11:30AM. We were made to run around seeing doctors and filling forms for half and hour.
At 12pm that afternoon, they told us to wait for half an hour as there was no vacancy in the labour ward. At 12:30pm they told us wait for another half an hour. I asked them if they could admit us into a hospital room until the labour ward is free. They said there were no Rooms free as well. My wife at this point of time, had an unbearable amount of time and started screaming. I kept asking them repeatedly if there was atleast a bed where she could lie down.
They kept telling us to wait for a little amount of time. It was horrible. Finally at 2pm, they said that Columbia Asia Hospital at Yeshwanthpur had a vacancy and they would provide an ambulance to take us there. We had sat down in the Ambulance ready to go. At that time, a doctor friend of ours, who I had called to enquire, came in like a Goddess and took us to RMV hospital which is about 20 minutes drive from there. My wife had a traumatic experience which probably resulted in a Caesarean operation that day, we can never tell. But I would advice any patient, that this should not be the hospital you go to in an Emergency.
It looks like the Hospital has more Front office Staff(I would prefer to call them Hotel management staff) than Medical personnel. Even if you go to a Government hospital where the treatment costs are negligible, they would admit you, atleast give you a bed on the floor even if the entire city was admitted there. There, they know what an emergency is. Here, the staff would treat as though you need an airline ticket and there are no seats.
