HAPPY HOLI

First and foremost, I wish all my MS friends a very happy Holi! I deliberately selected this product to write a review, as the name of this music album is just a synonym for the traditional Holi.

COLOURS

Golden Krithi's Colours- This album is the fusion of tabla nawaz Ustad Zakir Hussain and violin wizard Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan. A perfect blend between the Western classical, Hindustani classical and Carnatic classical; this album is a three-way treat for music enthusiasts. Brought out by BMG Crescendo, this album has 5 tracks, competing with each other in excellence.

These tracks are:

Quest for Music

This composition is in the Maaya Malava Gowla raag. Duration- 03:58

Valliya Naayaganae

This piece is in Raag Shanmugha Priya. Duration- 15:00

Evolution

You have to listen to this composition to know what the tabla is capable of! Ever thought that tabla can give you special effects of the process of evolution? Well, ask Ustad Zakirbhai! Based on Raag Maaya Malava Gowla again! Duration- 08:42

Saamajavaragamana

Clash of the titans! Watch out for the jugalbandi between the violin and the tabla.....it's a treat to listen to Ustad Zakir Hussain's magic fingers make the tabla sing the tune played by the violin! (Did I say sing? I will stick to that! Go ahead, listen to it!) This composition, based on Raag Hindolam is bound to take your breath away! Duration- 13:40

Abharaama Bhakti

Let me accept it! I am a Zakir Hussain fan. And I always paid more attention to the tabla.....but in this composition, Shri Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan forced me to listen to the violin....thereby making me go back all over the album to listen to this magician again and again! What a player! Do listen to this piece in Raag Bandhuvaraali.....it's my favourite! Duration- 13:10

Other Features of COLOURS

It is not just the tabla and the violin which makes this album a treat for the listener. Here are the other credits....which I am sure will generate interest in you! Arrangement is done by C.Jeyasekar. Strings section, comprising of cellos, violas, violins and double bass, is headed by Kalyan. And now for the knocker.... The percussions are played by none other than the wizard Shivamani. And on the keyboards is a musician named Dilip, who later on became a force to reckon with in Indian music. This Dilip is none other than the music whizkid A.R.Rehman. Ufffff......you got to listen to his keyboards to know his talent!!!!

FOOTNOTE

The album is produced by P.Ghanashyam. Thank you, Ghanashyamji, for this wonderful album!
