Citibank credit card-it sucks. Review on Citibank

Well guys!

I received a citibank credit card 1.5 years back. It was given to me for free under some corporate scheme. I used it for one year and things were cool,but the problem started when 1 year of free subscription was complete and they sent me a bill of 750 as renewal fee for next one year. Because I did not want to pay for it I called the call center number and I was told that I need to call on a toll free number to get it closed. I tried for 2-3 days and could not get through the number.

So what I did was to cut the card in 4 pieces and sent it to the chennai address given on my card. In the mean time I got new bill with a fine and service charge on the renewal fee. After sending the card to the chennai address the statements stopped coming. But last month I got another statement where the amount is 1800 with late fee and interest on the renewal amount, though I do not have the card and am not using it(and have no intention of using any). Now I dont know what to do.

So all of you who are planning to get some cards for free under some corporate schemes should be aware of this. I would suggest to go for a card where life time fee is charged once only(e.g. Standard chartered and u get 1600 Rs reebok gift voucher against a lifetime membership of 1600 ). So it is virtually free for life.
