An AC for a Lifetime.. Review on Choosing an Air Conditioner

I am back here after the summer break - well it is still summer times in Delhi though now being back in Office and the 24 hr Airconditioned Environment surely does a lot for the summer heat stricken soul. But thinking abt the poor family members of ours who dont share the office environment and it's comforts-the next best option available is to purchase a AC for your home.

Now the things to be kept in mind primarily can be grouped into 2 categories primarily:

Buying Terms:- These refer to the type of the AC your planning to buy for your home. Air-conditioners come mainly in 3 major forms for household use-

a)Window-AC: Which are attached to the window sill of your living room or bedroom.It weighs approx 30-40 Kgs and comes in variable cooling capacities: 1 ton, 1.5 tons, 2 tons, 3 tons etc. The cooling is variably good for a enclosed area particularly a room of medium size. Use this type of an AC to cool up your bedroom. The factors to be taken into consideration when buying a Window AC is the amount of features provided by the company concerned - mainly the cooling capacity, BTU/Hr cooling capacity, EER ratio, filters for air purification and the sturdiness of the AC to be all -weather combination as the window AC is least protected from the forces of nature.Another important feature to be taken in mind nowadays the compressor type which is provided in the AC. Reciprocatory compressors are time proven though with a lesser EER ration thus consuming more of electricity but newer Rotary compressors are more on the EER ratio and less on the sound levels thus the consumer should go in for a Rotary compressor.Brands exist like Carrier, Hitachi, Voltas, Blue Star, LG, Whirlpool and Samsung. I would sincerly recommend the users against buying the LG, Samsung and Whirlpool Window ACs as they have been known to sell cheap but low quality versions.

b)Split ACs:This type of ACs consist of two primary components - the split duct and the Outdoor unit. The split duct is placed which constitues the area to be cooled and the outdoor unit is placed outside. Both of them are connected by means of Insulated Copper pipes. If any of the readers are planning to buy these models they should be planning to cool a bigger area than just one room. Though I have a Split AC in my room and Split ACs can be used in a single room also they are not financially viable a option to use for a single room Go in for a window AC instead. The cooling capacity for a 2 room cooling Split AC is normally 3 tons and having 2 ducts at both the rooms. The cost though is financially burdensome is enough to satisfy the cooling needs of any given individual.

The best among the Split AC brands are Carrier with their Hi-Wall Series and the Hitachi Range - both which come in high quality and economical models for use. Other Companies though selling at cheaper rates are not worth it in the longer run.
