LOW COST FLIP FROM SAMSUNG
Apr 19, 2009 09:14 PM 2005 Views

I bought this low cost, flip model from Samsung, B310, last week. There s a story behind this purchase. I was a Nokia person for the last 1 year(only), when I bought 2 successive 6300 models, and lost both. Sore with myself over my inability to keep a mobile, and upset with having lost more than 15000/-, I decided that I will settle for a low cost mobile from Sony or Samsung(Mom said Nokia isnt lucky for me !). Previously I had a Samsung X610 model, and it did 2 full years for me, blacking out once during its tenure with me.

So I stood in a mobileshop, asking for a flip walkman from Sony, I had always wanted a flip and a nice FM player. I was told sony does not have a flip in my price range (2000-3000). I was suggested a few Samsung & Nokia models. Brushing aside Nokia, I took a look at a Slide & a flip of Samsung, and decided on this little one, B310, since it looked cool, and was priced lower. At 2500/-, I felt it was an okay deal.

I am yet to fully discover its features, but of what I ve seen so far, I ve been satisfied with a few things..

  1. Sound reception is good, incoming voices are loud, my hard-of-hearing mom is happy.

  2. Ringtones are loud, sadly I cannot download fancy movie songs.

  3. FM is good, the jack is a little big for the phone. Stations can be changed from the jack itself. But

the mobile should be kept in the open postion. if u close it, & change stations from the jack, FM

switches off. I m yet to find a way out of this. A direct FM key is available on the panel itself.

  1. We have FM recording, I have recorded a few bits of my fav songs, with the earphones plugged

in. With or without any surrounding noise, the recorded version is loud, but not very pleasing to

the ears.

  1. The recorded song bit (of around 7-8 mins)can be used for ringtones.

6 The speaker is quite loud. Kepad is comfy, okay.

  1. Other features - msgs, phonebook, call logs, calculators and other applications, are regular for

a basic model. The B310 comes in a charcoal grey( just black, ya) color, with an extra cover.

  1. Calender has additional feature of festivals listed.

  2. There are multiple alarms, a feature regular in Samsung, but not in Nokia. Very useful for setting

different alarms for weekdays and weekends.

  1. The battery life is long. Samsung is always better than Nokia in this aspect.

  2. The display is good, I guess its the routine color display, but its good

  3. And now, for the minuses. No Camera(obviously), no video, no music player, no memory slots,

and the like. ( but I saw a mobile with all these features and more, at Rs.3000/-. It was an

LG new model. I didnt like its look, and not knowing whether to trust LG or not, I moved away)

  1. I was told the GPRS will work, but I ll get it activated first, and then see.

  2. Total shared memory in the phone is around 4MB, not enough for songs recording. So u can

record only bits of songs, for ringtones only.

Overall, I think this a good buy for me, for the price I paid. And the phone looks cool too. I hope and pray I d be able to keep this mobile at least, for a long time.!

I wonder if this little mobile needs such a lengthy review, but when I googled for a low cost mobile, I couldnt find a convincing one. So I thought this might help somebody. Thanks for reading.
