War around the world!!!

Losing weight….its like one of those insurmountable tasks isn’t it? I mean there are millions around the world, not unlike myself who fight the weight problem and it seems to be a lost cause……

Ok let’s talk basics, being overweight and the far graver issue of obesity in the world is now worse than it has ever been.

And the problem is not gonna go away.(This I state with full confidence from personal experience!). And after practically years of shuffling up and down the weighing scale there are certain conclusions that I have come to.

  1. You are not going to lose weight unless you decide that you’re going to.

Friends and family can make you sign up for the gym, and maybe even get you there, but that’s going to be worth squat if you don’t decide to get on the treadmill and work. Your well-wishers may even put you on a diet, but hey, those chocolates you destroy aren’t helping your cause!

  1. Minimum input and max output…ha!

Weight loss isn’t just about losing weight by the way, the tough part is to stay there…. Picture this scenario, for a whole a month you’re the ideal loser.(Weight wise…relax!) You exercise, you diet, you stay away from alcohol etc etc. Basically do everything by the book. And at the end of the month, voila! It worked and you’ve lost yourself 5 Kg. So you pat yourself on the back and decide you can back off the routine and get back to “living life”….a little bit! So you have that extra chocolate bar after lunch and enjoy that beer after a tiring day and decide to skip the exercise for just one day…The trend begins and by the end of the month….#!@#?You’ve put some weight back on…

So basically what I’m trying to say is that after you lose the weight, you’ve got to remember to keep it in check to ensure that you stay that way and avoid any nasty surprises the next time you step on that weighing scale.

Hey and one other thing, losing weight takes time, forget about “lose 3 Kg in a week” kind of plan, that’s more dehydration than anything else and you’ll put on that weight again in no time.

  1. You don’t necessarily need a trainer or a doctor…

Of course a well informed buddy never hurt anyone, but really all you need is to do a little research off the web and ask a couple of questions here and there to make sure that you’re using the gym equipment the safe way and not denying your body the basic nutrition it deserves. Eat light & eat healthy….I prefer to follow” breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a popper” when I plan my diet. And just to clarify, NO I am not advising against seeing a doctor or a trainer, if there is any question about your health, please do see a doctor, if you seek professional help in the gym, by all means, get a trainer! I’m merely saying that they are not NECESSARY for MOST people and they should not be an issue between you and losing weight!

  1. Spot reduction

Spot reduction just won’t work. What is spot reduction? Well it’s like having a generally plump body and all you want is a flat stomach…Sorry people, THAT is NOT going to happen! Sure you can try….and you may succeed to some miniscule extent, but unless you lose weight from your entire body….nope, your iron board tummy is going to be safely packed under…flab!

But you know losing weight when you boil it all down, is a simple case of ‘MIND OVER BODY’. You feel hungry in the middle of the night…train you mind to ignore it…Your body signal’s for a day off from exercise, your mind has to have the will power to make sure that you do work out…Like I said, mind over body!

So those are some minor pointers that I thought would be worth sharing with…everybody and for the record, the above conclusions are based on personal experience….

All the best!
