The changing face of Indian TV. True. It has changed a lot. I remember a time when I had a TV with 10 channels and used to think that what would I do with so many channels. Then came DD2 and I was able to use my Channel Selector Knob.
That was a time when we used to really watch the TV and waited eagerly for the programs. Time changed. With the entry of cable tv first and dish antenna later, things started to change. Came in Star TV, Zee TV, BBC, Star Sports and we started to have more choices. Then there was a time when the world cup was held in Australia and was shown live on Star Sports. all the matches.
DD showed only Indian Matches and S/F and Finals. People started to develop interests in the satellite tv. Then there were some really good programs which started on these channels. Star Plus got a hit with some Bold Serials like BOLD & BEAUTIFUL and one more. Similarly Zee showed some good serials like Saanp Seedhi and Antakshri.
The message was clear. Satellite TV was to make inroads in INDIA. Then started more channels. With it started the boldness of the TV. People were able to watch more Adult content on the TV. Even DD too showed many Xrated type movies on its English movie channel. There was no restriction. Children could easily watch Star Movies, etc. showing nudity etc. without their parents knowledge.
Today the scenario is totally different. Despite the fact there is much ado about showing this and that on TV, nothing is really happening. One can't escape but see all those bold videos showing seminude models in song videos. There is no stop on the same.
Channels have come up with programs showing only provocative programs. I mean what would I do with a program like Vegas Showgirls. I don't understand that someone in India would be really interested with a program like that except the fact they get an opportunity to watch a lot of flesh.
Even if you somehow decide not to watch these channels, then one is left with some stupid soaps with a neverending story. There is no choice. You watch them for a week or two and you are bound to develop some interest. Thereafter only, one realises that what a blunder he has done.
Story is something which these soaps are far far away with. Logic is something they have never heard of. Curiosity is something they will create at the end of the serial so that one watches the same next day too.
As far as quality programs are concerned, they are lost in the crowd of these stupid soaps and vulgar and provocative programs. One should feel lucky if while channel surfing he/ she is able to find a program of real quality and content. Otherwise, see what is being forcibly thrashed on you.
