I purchased this camera after a lot of research for a month . I was oscillating between Cannon and Sony. I saw sample photos and took live tests as well on authorized centres .
Photo quality of Cannon is better . The only thing I miss is the panorama mode . While Sony has all"good-to-have " features, this one focuses on picture quality. Images taken with Point n Shoot Sony were highly processed which does not leave a good taste if you are really into photography. Photos look brighter in Sony but then if you can get the same brightness with editing .
Live Photography Option in Cannon is awesome
here are some of the pros and cons:
Pros:
1) Nice picture quality
2) Pics with flash are clear
3) Lot of photo editing options are available
4) Snaps of objects in motion(in sports mode) are decent
Cons:
1) Flash light comes out of the camera only when you manually press a button - hence you will need to have the flash outside always in case you are taking pictures in auto flash mode
2) The battery needs to be taken out from the camera for charging and cannot be charged in place - I am not sure if this feature is there in any camera, but it is definitely there in handycams.
3) Not sure of this - but to the best of my knowledge, camera cannot send images through WiFi to smart phone or computer without installing Camera Window software.
Overall had a good experience with the camera. The cons are not something that bug you much.
