S-H-A-T-T-E-R-I-N-G starts....
When did you take bath last time, is it before reading my review, imagine paying 50 paisa for every shower from now on, as Scheme from Bunty head presented to you, Bunty aur Babli is a blabber mouth movie talking about entertainment but results in a thud, yes thud.
It talks about Small town wannabes trying not what and what not to make it BIG, The Onset of this 14 crore Yash Raj Films production is promising, (Isn’t that a huge cliché line that you have read for all the movies, Promising), So Story by Aditya Chopra talks about Abhishek and Rani who reside in towns like Fursatganj and Panki Nagar, ok take the humor in the name of the towns, my Naani is from Kukshi (see another Funny name), See the premise is clear small townies going to make it big and with fun and entertainment added to make you all the way while you sit for the movie. Sham & Con scenes seems to be funny to start with and we can take that as a liberty without going into the logics like why would Bentley/Austin Car Store land up in Bulandshahar, Where do they get all kinds of bluff clothing and We Indians still don’t check the Ids, Do We?
Anyways laugh a bit and move on with few songs, I feel the first song Dhadak Dhadak gave it the perfect upbeat start and made a promise of a roller coaster but then movie transforms itself into Analog waves and moves up and down.Music By SEL is good to Avg., well for more read my review for that, I feel Dhadak Dhadak and Chupke Chupke se will be hummed in the parking lot of the cinemas.
Then we take on to overall Cinematography Abhik Mukhopadhyay is good, I mean let me sum up that Good technicalities are more or less the prerequisites of every movie and remember this is from Yash Raj Films, Now moving on to Conic situations to decision of the protagonist to take this as a full time profession, sounds funny. But here is where the 2nd half takes on with the advent of Big B as the cop after Bunty and Babli, well usual Chor Police but it wasn’t to be also, You know the movie would have hit home if few one up man ship, few chases would have been shown and it wasn’t to be and that’s where the whole of post interval portions DRAGS, The intro scene between Amitabh and Abhishek should have been used as clap shattering and whistling hysteria, but it wasn’t to be and it again made me Yawn, I mean the whole Daru peekar Love Batana Sequence , see the incisiveness is lost and when you YAWN you sleep rather then Sing coz here is where they push a song Kajra Re Kajra Re featuring Aishwarya and Father/Son, personally I enjoyed this song, But this made me grip down a flaw in Choreography by Shiamak/Saroj combine which was out of Sync at many places especially in Nach Baliye song, where they made It difficult for Abhishek, and also over ballistics in the Dhadak Dhadak Song,.
There were a few scenes that made the impact like
1) Raj Babbar and Abhishek’s confrontation.
2) I liked the Trick of Filling up Washing Machines.
3) Occasionally Taj Mahal selling sounded funny to me.
4) Bus scenes when they evaluate themselves as Bunty and Babli
Performance wise I feel Rani got an Upperhand over her hero and she created more hysteria then him, Abhishek is good but I feel he was made to look bad and proved me that he is stiff while dancing, especially the Nach Baliye song, Amitabh is tad above is usual self, his haryanavi tone is good but I felt disappointed not finding his BnB Rap song onscreen., Rest all are passable.
Shaad Ali Sehgal, you can see him onscreen in the Title Song, as a director he has done patch good job and more a letdown as a story teller.
My suggestions of the best scenes, only 2, QQQ episode and the Dharna Pradarshan in front of the Tourism ministry, Rest all I smiled but then I have a smiley face.
Why??
1) Bunty dresses like a practicing Cricketer and Carries that Cricket kit all the time, is that for adding more fun. Perhaps.
2) He also wears a watch on the Hand Grip, Is it Funny, Shall I Laugh?
3) They go blah on a Shower; please I have acquired the LOTA BALTI and SHOWER culture both.
4) Do the Planes fly with the all the Non Flying Staff in there, aren’t there checks.
Was it an attempt to make fun it went to overboard and instead making people laughing, they made them think that is it possible. So when you play with CONS ensure that you have more Jokes and Gags up your sleeve, BnB slips here badly.
Overall BnB is a letdown for me, as I write this review the movie as covered its cost accounting to a humongous start in India at around 16.5 cr (Way Ahead of K3G), but then sadly the collections are dipping and so is the excitement of both BnB, had it been more crisp and more of a Howlariousness, I tell you Yash Raj Films would have had a franchise in there hands by the name of say Adventures of Bunty and Babli., So Boxoffice wise Movie has earned but its not a Block Buster for sure as I see.
