I had a BSA Diva. I bought it for 32, 000 in 2010. It goes up to 24 km speed on full charge, later goes down to 20 km. I am not a regular user, I used it only for short distances like 4 or 5 km. Once I went out for 8 km, its power dropped after 8 km.
Its body is total piece of plastic, very fragile. I have seen Yash bike, its body is well built and it goes until 35 km speed without much time and my neighbour bought it for 30, 000. Compared to that, the price of Diva is not justified in any way. Probably 20, 000 is more suitable price.
Because of the low speed, it is so hard to cross the road safely. To go on to the main road, I did not feel safe with this bike. It goes slow, so you need a lot of patience.
You would find no one to repair this. Once a regular bike mechanic came, but he rejected to repair this bike. I read through its manual, they did not give any details that are useful. I opened it and fixed some problems myself.
I have had this bike for 2.5 yrs now. I never took it for servicing as the service center is 13kms away and there is no way that I can drive this ‘piece of junk’ that far.
It was giving 7 or 8 km, but recently its getting dropped for 4km. I explored my options, a new battery, 24AH battery will cost 10, 900. And they told for 200 rupees more, they can increase the speed to 30km. The guarantee for the battery is only for 6months. I don’t think its worth spending anything more on this bike. I still haven’t decided about what bike I should buy next, as I use my car for most of the things.
Update on Feb 18, 2013:
After lot of research on petrol bikes, like Flyte, Maestro, Pep+, Pleasure, I decided to go ahead and buy a battery for my E Bike. My reasons are
1.I use the bike very less
2.I never had any issues like loss of a part or engine troubles or taking it to service etc. I dont have to do any of that. Maintenance to this bike is literally '0'. I put air in the two wheels regularly and keep it covered and charge it when needed.
When I have read about the issues in petrol bikes, I realized how easy it is, to maintain this E bike. This might not be applicable to everyone, but if anybody is in my situation, this is the best option. For petrol bikes, also, per kilometer cost is 3 or 4 rupees. Where as, when it comes to my car, per kilometer cost is 7 or 8 rupees. Above all, in Indian traffic, going in a car (especially if kids are there) is the safest option, if we can afford.
Update Mar 2013:
I bought Yamaha Ray. It is wonderful. I wish I had done this 3yrs ago. I will write a review on Ray, as soon as I am ready. Buying Ebike is a total waste, if battery is 2000-3000 rupees, then you can buy it. Even then I would not buy it.
