On a recent trip from New Delhi to Chicago on KLM, my Delhi-Amsterdam flight was delayed 13 hours due to fog over the airport. As a result, the KLM staff sent me to Amsterdam on the delayed flight, then had me fly to London on British Airways, and then fly from London to Chicago on American Airlines. My British Airways experience started out reasonably nicely. Checkin at Amsterdam was orderly and quick. The staff were reasonably helpful, and we got to the gate expecting a good flight. Due to poor weather in Amsterdam, our flight was rescheduled three times, and was eventually delayed a total of 2 hours, but the ground staff made no announcements. Instead passengers had to keep on checking the monitors in the terminal to see when the flight would depart. Once we boarded, I was pleased to note that the newish A310 had nice, comfortable leather seats, and I settled in for what I thought would be a short and uneventful flight. The meal service was very low quality; my vegetarian meal consisted of a dry sandwitch consisting of a tough whole wheat bun slathered with cream cheese and tomato sauce, all served with a small container of mineral water. To be honest, I've had better meals on shorthaul Indian Airlines flights. But the meal service was not the problem. The flight attendants were never very friendly during the flight, but the ultimate insult came when, shortly before landing, the flight attendants came around carrying customs declarations forms for those passengers who planned to stay in the UK. Since I was connecting to the US, I didnt need a form and I didnt take one. Then, all of the sudden the flight attendants come back to the seats where I was sitting with my family, and started yelling at us, very slowly, and waving the customs forms in our faces, because apparently, according to them, there is no such thing as an English speaking Indian! We then had to explain to this rude flight attendant that we had indeed understood her the first time she came around, and that we had no need for her forms. Insulted and embarrased, I was glad to get out of that plane as soon as possible. This is an airline that I will NEVER fly again under any circumstances. I would rather deal with KLM's ancient fleet any day than fly with these people.
