This review seeks to draw a comparison between Britannia's original range of chocolate chip cookies, the pretty recently introduced Good Day Chunkies, and rival brands such as Parle's Milano, in terms of factors such as taste and value for money.


I love chocolate chip cookies, be it the ones baked by my mom or the ones marketed by well-known brands like Parle and Britannia.


The first kind of chocolate chip cookies that I had the pleasure of tasting, were the ones marketed by Britannia. This was before Parle's Milano won me over!


I found Britannia's original chocolate chip cookies to be reasonably priced. At the time, from my neighbourhood store, I could buy a 75 gram pack for around Rs. 22 and the pack(as far as I can remember) had around 10 biscuits or so. The chocolate chips melted in your mouth and combined with a floury and buttery biscuit base, made for a yummy tea time snack.


Then came Parle's Milano and changed every thing for me, personally. On a comparative basis, I found that for around Rs. 6 more, I could not only treat myself to tastier chocolate chip cookies(wherein the taste of flour in the biscuit base, was much less apparent), but there was also more value for money, as the size of the biscuits were definitely bigger! Parle's Milano was to me, the better biscuit, but not by a very large margin.


I still did like Britannia's original range of chocolate chip cookies, but a marketing ploy changed all that!


Around the middle of last year, some of the grocery retailers from whom I buy my essential grocery staples, stopped stocking Britannia's original range of chocolate chip cookies and instead, began stocking a seemingly new and interesting range called Good Day Chunkies. To me, the price(Rs. 50) for a 100 gram pack was rather outrageous(since a 135 gram pack of Parle's Milano, was available for just 10 additional rupees at Rs. 60), but I was very interested to see whether it was worth it in terms of the taste and size of the biscuits!


Upon opening and examining the contents of my newly bought pack of Good Day Chunkies, I was in for a disappointment! Amidst the glossy and attractive looking packaging, were a mere 6 chocolate chip cookies. Each cookie came in its own individual packet. This peculiar feature, prompted me to ask myself, the following questions:'is this the excuse that Britannia is using to market this product at a higher price?' and'doesn't this extra packaging add to the overall weight of the biscuit carton?!'.


I must admit that Good Day Chunkies tasted far better than Britannia's original range of chocolate chip cookies(and were indeed bigger in size), but were interestingly, nothing special in comparison to rival brands like Parle's Milano. This again, begged the obvious question'why on earth should I buy a so-called 100 gram pack of Good Day Chunkies for Rs. 50, for the sake of tasting just 6 biscuits, when I can clearly, spend just Rs. 10 more and avail of a 135 gram pack of Parle's Milano biscuits that are superior in taste or better yet, buy a 200 gram pack of Parle's Hide and Seek(which is even better in taste in comparison to both Milano and Good Day Chunkies) for Rs. 40(where you get double the quantity, at a lesser price, in comparison to Good Day Chunkies!)?'.


I really did not appreciate various retailers(both online and offline) pulling Britannia's original range of chocolate chip cookies off the shelves, while trying to promote, what is(in my opinion), an absolute rip off, namely Good Day Chunkies. The fact that Britannia actually implemented this sort of a marketing ploy through its range of chocolate chip cookies, is very disappointing!
