Bookmyshow.com is one of the means owing to which "Bigtree Entertainment Pvt. Ltd" has become a leader in online ticketing solutions, among other things. I have been using this for quite some time now to good effect. Hence, it only seemed right to write about it.

WEBSITE LAYOUT

The layout of the website is very simple because of the nature of the topic it deals with. It's essentially just a simple ticketing portal for many products. There are direct icons and indirect paths of navigation leading to products / event participation rights we want to purchase. After that, it's just a host of selection options which we choose, depending on what we want to purchase.

There is an option to select language on the top right section - English and other Indian languages.

There are also different sections for "offers" availability and a "support" section for any possible mishaps during one's navigation. One can also purchase a "gift card" here - physical or electronic for an intended recipient.

Other than that, it's mostly just different product categories you might want to be a part of.

The website itself looks like a mix of red and white here and there, interspersed with varied icons (for various events) in between.

NAVIGATION & HOW IT WORKS

As soon as the website loads, we are asked to enter our location. That in turn, helps the website to filter out and narrow down our options with regards to the website. Same option for language, although "English" is already default. It has a host of other Indian languages available as an option.

Upon doing so, we are presented with a cover background which generally features the more popular upcoming events we might like to purchase the rights to be a participant of, or in layman terms just a ticket. Helping people to click on the most probable event they fancy "directly" rather than go through all the options. If not, of course, then there is the drop down on the left, by which we have to select the category of product we are interested in - movies, plays, other events and a separate sports section as well.

That's it. After that, it is the usual. Go to your intended product. If it's a "film", go to the particular multiplex option where you want to see it amongst the options. Fill in necessary details and make necessary options after which you may opt for a payment option - net banking, card or anything else. Similarly, if it's a "play" you want to watch, choose desired play and venue, check details and date, make a selection and the payment. Same goes for any other event like a "marathon", "concert" and so on. The end result is we finish our payment for even a far off event (date wise or location wise) with ease and are provided a universally recognised ticket for it.

One platform to purchase rights for presence at events! Since one does it online, it would still be categorized as "online shopping" although not in the sense we are generally accustomed to. Not a physical product which would be delivered to us but more often than not, participation rights for an event.

HIGHLIGHTS - PROS & CONS

1) Purchasing rights to events you want to be a part of, is more accessible. There are many events happening all the time which require a participation fee but there are no real means to purchase the rights other than being there at the desired place on the required date and time. That hinders our planning options. This kind of platform makes that more feasible as an online ticketing solution.

2) Reliability is generally pretty good and for such a platform which brings events and products together - both popular and uncommon, it has to be so. It doesn't disappoint.

3) Owing to its tie-ups, along with the purchase of some products we get an additional offer on some other products which we may "probably consume" during our participation at an event. Accordingly, it has some sensible / probable offers available. For e.g., if we purchase rights to be at a film, there might be offers on intermission food goodies or at restaurants nearby etc. which we may or may not choose.

4) The only place where real products are involved with regards to this portal are "gift cards" which we may want to send people as a gift so that they may redeem it while purchasing actual physical products or elsewhere. Similar to additional offers we may opt for while purchasing rights to be at an event. But for another person.

5) Since it provides an online ticketing solution and saves us the trouble of physically being at some place to get the ticket, there are some nominal internet handling fees. But effectively, it's saving us money by the accessibility ease and other optional offers. Not really a con, if I may say so.

6) Like any website, it also obviously has a database and server at the backend while we navigate the graphical user interface. But that also means very occasional server maintenance, server shut-offs etc. Very meagre downtimes on select occasions which don't really warrant a complaint. Navigation is generally smooth and simple.

To conclude, I'd say it is like a universal ticketing solution for our daily needs and certainly increases the scope of products that can be purchased online. I've enjoyed using it these past few years and so have some others I know.
