We all know Sonam Kapoor cannot act. So let's set it aside. But somewhere in the titles I see Sujoy Ghosh's name as the creative producer. I hook on.

Jia(Sonam Kapoor) is a super cop. Her step brother Adrianne wants to be a rapper. But its exam time. So Jia, goaded by her mother(Lillete Dubey), forcibly walks her brother out of a rock show.

While driving home they meet with an accident. Adriane dies on the spot and Jia loses her eyesight. Jia holds herself responsible for her brother's death as she had handcuffed him in the car to stop him from getting out and going back to the show.

Six years later, Jia has come to terms with her blindness. She has learnt Braille. Stays alone. Manages her day to day chores well. And wants to get back to her police job. But she is refused.

In the meantime, the city of Glasgow, where Jia lives, is traumatized by an unknown assailant(Purab Kohli) who picks up young girls, captivates and tortures them. Later, it is revealed that he ultimately kills them too.

Jia's mother runs an orphanage. She invites Jia to stay with her. But Jia refuses and books a cab home. She mistakenly gets into the serial killer's car thinking it to be the cab, realizes that there is something fishy as she hears banging noise in the dicky and jumps out. The killer coerces her but she fights back. By that time a cab arrives and she is able to get back home unhurt while the killer rans off.

The next morning she reports the matter to the police stating that she believes the man who accosted her is the culprit in the missing girls' case. No one believes her because she is blind. But she perseveres. At last, a detective of Indian origin(Vinay Pathak) appreciates her detecting abilities and pairs with her to nab the killer.

Jia makes it her mission to catch this serial killer. To get back her job?

She maintains a spacious flat with super modern amenities even when she is jobless. How?

Knowing that the killer is after her still she roams the city at odd hours. Isn't it foolhardiness given her physical handicap?

The reason behind the serial killings is not clear. There are only vague allusions and warnings by the killer that nobody should try trespass his dark world. Funny!

The Indian detective loses his life in the hands of the killer in a hospital car park which is conveniently deserted. The killer swerves his car, waves at one of his colleagues and just passes by. There is no guard at sight. The colleague misses the detective's body lying in a pool of blood!

Subsequently, it comes to light that the killer is a gynecologist. He has odd reactions while internally examining his female patients . Nobody suspects him except the girl who assists him. Thank the Lord he does not attack her!

The killer does not have a name. He is omnipresent and dashes to slit the throat of any and sundry who comes in his way. It seems he has ample time in his hands. How can he manage to be free to kill with the busy schedule of a medical specialist?

In the end, of course, Jia has to win, defeat the killer and is reinstated in her job. Unfortunately, the detective who actually believes in her and initiates the investigation is not remembered. Nobody even bothers to pay tribute to him who is martyred while discharging his duty.

Instead of Blind the name of the movie should be Jia Story. She is all in all. Being blind she wears a dead pan look which eases the burden of emoting for the actress. Purab Kohli looks haggard and unconvincing. Vinay Pathak sails through the role of a junk munching sleuth but is underutilized.

Thank God for no love interest angle. The scene where Jia's service dog is killed is cruel, cringeworthy and totally avoidable. The narrative is tight. Direction is not flawless. Performance is mediocre. Storytelling, as mentioned above, has many glitches.

Blind is streaming now on Jio Cinema. Its a one time watch. Do not try to apply your mind while watching it.
