Title of my review does not underestimate other works for great Indian directors, thats my opinion. This movie has an universal subject (everybody in world knows Helen Keller), no songs, 80% dialogues in english which other India's Oscar nominations lacked. The movie has great acting by legendary Amitabh Bachhan (He is still competition to SRK / Aamir forget abt others), Life time performance by Rani (I don't believe she can perform again of this caliber) and well supported by others. This movie tells us about a teacher - student involvement where both are not ordinary ones. Student is dumb, deaf, blind, young lady and teacher is suffering from one of the rare diseases and of double the age. It is just not teaching to survive with the disabilities it's about teaching to leave a ambitious life and overcome all the natural hurdles to leave like a normal person.
He teaches her to dream, to leave independently, to have targets in life.
The movie is shot brilliantly. Great work by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Great performances by the lead and supporting actors. Sometimes it becomes loud but overall impact is significant.
Some of the scenes are great. One scene where Rani describes that even though she can not see she dreams is masterpiece. Again her efforts to get Amitabh back to normal life touch you alot.
Extraordinary work about two extraordinary livings. Salute to all contributors to the movie.
