When obscure people face instant stardom, what can one expect? Jade Goody's exactly that, an adolescent with the brains of a dinosaur without a good PR. I don't blame her. Racism is so deeprooted in societies, it comes along with the hushed tones of a conversation in every corner. Watching a movie? I hate that half naked actor, Salman Khan. No, not because he is a muslim, but the way he presents himself. For that matter, I love Aamir Khan for any of his different movies. But if I were to state Salman Khan is a polygamist as in the nature of muslim law who treats all his women like they were a part of his harem(Based on his different failed affairs wth women - Somy Ali, Sangeetha Bijlani, Aishwarya Rai, Katreena Kaif) I sound racist.
It depends on how you express it which again depends on whether you hate the person more or you are in one of those weak moments(or of course you simply are a racist). And no, I don't hate Salman Khan, I actually like him for a lot of his initial movies and consider him a better actor than ShahRukh. That was an example. But I definitely hate Shahrukh for his(lack of) acting skills. I hate him more probably for the stutter. Shahrukh Khan is a moron who can't even spell Kiran properly(Darr). Bah! and the humbug wants to compete with Amitabh(KBC)? Who is this two paise actor with 6 feet of shit?(That could be a racist comment provided I had hinted at a community, so, nope, it ain't racist). I would love to leave a racist comment for Shahrukh. Actually there's nothing wrong with Shahrukh Khan competing with Amitabh for the show. In the end, both are in it for the money. IIf AB earned enought to pull ABCL out of the woods, that's definitely big money!
Someone asked me today, Are you a Mallu? Now there's nothing to it other than the person wanting to know your antecedants. But then, he could also have asked, are you a Keralite? or Which part of India are you from? Now let's consider another statement. 'That guy is a Mallu.Don't trust him.' That definitely is a racist statement. You are being asked to not trust a person based on his antecedants. We encounter such statements everyday and consider it normal to ask a person if he is a Bihari. Nothing racist since we all have thick skulls by now.
India has so many diverse cultures and each guy does not like entire communities based on his perception/experience with a particular individual. That's true, we often associate our past experiences with a friend/enemy when meeting a new person.
The only mistake Jade Goody made was vomiting the below slander which got someone's goat - ’How can Indians eat when they know where their fingers have been?' That definitely is a racist comment. There never was a racist motive behind her comment, just an observation expressing her dislike at people washing a few of the nine holes of the human body with the same hand. I can understand them thinking twice about shaking hands with Indians. It was inevitable that some third rate celebrity had to point that out. But pointing it to another Indian was very undiplomatic. Now that she made the statement, I am forced to agree with her. If the same line was used by Borat, then that would have been brushed aside as a comedy movie and would have incited a laugh. I find it ridiculous and funny that a foreigner had to point out that we wash ourselves with our hands and eat with the same. I did feel offended initially, but then, is it really such a big thing to cry about? The Chinese are known to eat cockroaches, snakes, insects, et all. The Americans and Europeans have umpteen such instances which when pointed out sound silly, racist, and true.(Just watch AXN's reality shows to see half of them)
It's all in the media for controversy seekers. Enjoy. And the controversy watchers. Of course, the revenue made by sending 27000 sms to oust Goody is another matter.
