Bhoot is a movie about a spirit that refuses to stay dead. The spirit waits to appear when the apartment once inhabited by a woman and her child is rented by a young married couple. The apartment is a duplex, lived in by the father of the ghosts murderer. A maid appears one day, and says that the other occupant sent her. She appears to be the better candidate for spirit occupation, but instead the spirit chooses Swati, Urmila Matondkar to inhabit. Urmila Matondkar is well suited to play the inhabited, but could have been better utilized. She spent much of the movie moaning and groaning without having anything really sensible to say. I suppose if you are possessed that is what happens, and so she played her part very well. Rekha, plays the spiritualist, and is a welcome respite, in a movie that is visited by ghosts. I found the movie long, but engaging. I had to view it more than once, but then you pick up the nuances that are missed in one viewing. I didn't care for the out of focus shots, nor the unanswered questions. One in particular, allows the imagination to assume, but I for one want to know for sure. I suppose as in life nothing is ever sure, and so the director makes use of this idea, however, I believe that the loopholes should be closed. In ''Bhoot'' the spirit must be believed or imagined for if reality is what your seeking than you won't like this movie. If you are able to suspend reality, and revel in the imagination, you will enjoy this very scary movie.
