Bhoot ,the horrifying treat by Ram Gopal Verma was quite impactful in not going overboard with a horror script. Urmila Matondkar gave an immensely powerful performance and deserves every bit of appreciation in her role of a female influenced by spirits.Ajay Devgan also contributed in being natural in his role as Urmila’s husband .I guess one needs to have
a natural inclination for psychic supernatural events to see through the events being portrayed in movies otherwise it simply
turns out to be a useless mental exercise.
The house in which they stay is haunted by two ghosts and Urmila usually gets frightened whenever she is alone at home.A pretty simplistic storyline which can illafford to have any dramatic portrayal and the director tactfully managed to extract the best out of Urmila in this movie. She feels vulnerable and helpless at her terrifying experiences but eventually it is Rekha in her role of a female Tantrik who is handed over the responsibility to exorcise the spirit out of Urmila’s body.Urmila making strange voices from her mouth looked quite dangerous which could be seen in the face of Ajay Devgan who was obviously bewildered at the sight of his wife facing paranormal trauma.
The story gets resolved with the murderer of two people ,who subsequently became spirits, getting caught and he confesses his crime.Nana Patekar also looked convincing in his role of a police officer.
One needs to believe in horror to actually realize the purpose of watching a horror movie. It is miles away from the practical and materialistic projection as seen in most of the movies but is strictly limited to unnatural realities of life which may appear real to some and some may go down to categorise it as a senseless trash.
