An EDUCATIONAL Comedy!!. Review on Best of Luck

Most Gujarati plays deal only with marriage issues. And in the midst of such plays, we get this play, which is entertaining as well as, educational!

(Sorry, I don’t remember the names of the characters in the play. So, I will call them by their original names)

Karan Trivedi is a HSC student. He is scholar and has a sharp mind. His mother, Pallavi Pradhan, who works as a cashier in a bank wants Karan to get above 90% and above in HSC exams as her dream is to make Karan a doctor. His husband Muni Jha (J D Chacha of Kyunki Saas Bhi.. ) is a music director and has just made a new album. He is scared of his wife. The story picks up speed when Shekhar Shukla and his family come to stay in their neighbourhood. Shekhar’s son Amit Bhatt was also in HSC. He used to play the whole day. He used to do the same thing before and though he got 90% in 11 th standard exams. On the other hand, Karan studied day and night and got 86% in 11 th. Shekahar was a care-free man and wanted his son to get into some business.

Pallavi Pradhan now became very strict with Karan. She made him sleep only for five hours, between 1am to 6am, and made him study the whole day. Then came the 1 st term exam results. Karan got 90% while Amit got 93%! This made Pallavi very angry and she became stricter with Karan. Now he got only 3 hours to sleep. Karan who was scared of her mother did not object. Karan studied day and night while Amit enjoyed his life. Then came the exams! And then the day of results! Amit gets 95.3% in HSC exams. So how much did Karan got? And how did Amit got so much though he spent his whole day playing?

Karan Trivedi was nice. He really looked like an HSC student. His way of reciting the learned formulas and crying was good and has the capacity of becoming a nice actor in future. Pallalvi Pradhan was nice and delivers a great role.

Muni Jha was the best of all in the play. He keeps you laughing throughout the play and without him, the play would had been non-entertaining. The scene where he performs ‘shirshasana’ live on stage was hilarious and great. Shekhar Shukla was humorous too and he looked funny when he was dressed as a woman in one scene!

Amit Bhatt was okay and didn’t had much role in the play. The one who had came as a tutor for Karan was the most humorous character of the play. Reshma, who played the love interest of Karan looked sweet and cute! Others have also done a good job.

Siddharth Randeria’s story was great. No other person would had thought of such a story(He is also an actor and director of the play ‘Bas Kar Bakula’). Dialogues were another plus-point of the play. It had some nice, well-written dialogues that would easily make you laugh!

Vipul Mehta’s direction was nice but he has added unnecessary scenes in the play. For eg, there was no need of a scene where Muni Jha sells his scooter to buy a computer for Karan. There were few other unnecessary scenes too. Also, the drama became emotional at times.

This play is very nice but what I didn’t liked is it makes a wrong impression on parents that in order to get 90% in HSC exams, a student should study the whole day and even late in the night. This is very wrong because it can affect one’s health as an individual should get 8-10 hours of sleep daily. I am in 10 th but I don’t study till late in the night and though get good marks!

On the whole, Best Of Luck is a nice, well-made educational comedy and provides total satisfaction!
