A city ruined by police corruption. Review on Bangalore

Planning to go to Bangalore? This overcrowded city's major problem is the police force. If you are a victim of a crime, and has to go to a police station, prepare to waste several days for nothing. The constable demands money(minimum Rs100) so that he can phone you when your report is signed. When you go to the station again, the sub inspector will tell you that your report is no good, so make another report, he will demand money for photo copies, after pocketing the money he will send you to get photo copies, then he will demand money for the petrol to visit the scene of crime. this corruption will go on and on and nothing is solved. Your expensive items will never return to you.

In this city, it is widely believe that the police works closely with the criminals and share the loot. It is common in Kenya and Tanganyika, but I never suspected it is worse in a city like Bangalore, And, oh, by the way, none of the police force speak English. Unless you know their language -Kannada- bring an iterpreter with you.

The police in Bangalore thrives on victims of crime. The government knows it too well, but they don't do nothing to prevent it.

So, if you are going to Bangalore, do not bring any expensive items. Thefts in the hotels and apartments are very common, and there is a high demands for laptops, digital cameras, cell phones, passports and jewellery. Pickpockets are everywhere, especially in crowded markets, trains and buses.

The city has grown tremendously in the last 20 years, and is a hub for criminals preying on tourists and locals. There is not much exciting attractions here, and if possible avoid visiting Bangalore until authorities step up and replace the current police force and control the criminals.

It is a shame, in this day and age, a thriving country like India still tolerate an inept police force filled with uneducated goondas who supplement their income by milking the victims of the crime.

I sure hope these comments will be brought to attention of authorities, and I am happy to provide details of the incident and the address of the police station in question.

NOTE: 3 Days after  the above article appeared in Mouthshut, THE HINDU published a report from Transparency International stating that Karnataka tops in bribes in south India, with Kerala the least affected state.  A study conducted among 22728 families  between Nov. 2007 and January 2008 revealed that  the corrupt officials in Karnataka extorted Rs, 97.6 crore in bribes. One more reason to AVOID visiting Bangalore where crime is encouraged by the police.
