Lalbagh Botanical Garden - The botanical garden is internationally famous for its scientific study and conservation of plants. For botany students, the place offers ample learning opportunities as rare species of flora are preserved here. Every year, flower shows are organised in the month of January (Republic Day) and August (Independence Day), a much awaited event among locals and tourists. This spectacular show shouldn’t be missed while touring the city.
Bannerghatta Biological Park - Located in the centre of the forests of the famous Champakadhama hills, the park is spread over 25,000 acre of land and is a natural zoological reserve that houses panthers, tigers, lions and a great variety of birds. Just 22 kms south of Bangalore, it takes around just one and a half hour to reach there. This natural park comprises a zoo, a safari, a butterfly park and a rescue centre that look after orphaned animal’s conservation and rehabilitation.
Vidhana Soudha - One of the most famous landmarks of Bangalore, the Vidhana Soudha houses the State Legislature and the Secretariat of Karnataka. The magnificent white building is spread over 60 acres of land and boasts of Dravidian architecture. It is also the largest Legislative building of India. About 5000 unskilled workers, masons, 1500 chisellers and wood-carvers worked on the construction. It is a secular building which reflects a perfect blending of British, Dravidian and Indo-Islamic architecture. It is built mainly with Bangalore granite, excavated from the areas around Mallasandra and Hesaraghatta. One of the main attractions among locals and tourists is the lighting up of the building on every Sunday evening.
Bangalore Palace - The magnificent mansion boasts of battlements, turreted barricades, fortified towers and arches. Mainly constructed of woods, its outer look is spectacular and is set amidst luxurious green gardens.
Cubbon Park - Spread over 300 acres of land, it is officially known as Sri. Chamarajendra Park and is based in the Central Administrative Area. The park houses and provides a green environment to the State Library, the Vidhana Soudha and the Attara Kacheri. There are many magnificent statues of prominent personalities that are installed inside the park. For kids, there is a children park where they can enjoy a ride in the toy train, Puttani Express and can visit the Doll Museum.
