Controversy….ads the spice to forum…

The last 2hr has been very difficult for me, because things have gone haywire. It was very difficult for me to write a review on Bangalore at this point. My comments on Amrita’s review have been taken absolutely in a wrong manner. Hence, I would like to put my point very clear.

Now, for people who think that, Bangalore is a new place for me. That’s absolutely wrong. All my relatives stay at Indiranagar in Bangalore and I have at least 2 personal visits in a year to this city, apart from the business visit. Hence Bangalore is definitely like second home. I don’t want to take much of the time and would like to divide the review into , 2 the pros and cons of the city.

Some Sweeteners of Bangalore…

Climate…

Around, 5 to 6 years back, Bangalore had one of the best climates. It’s always cool and it seemed like just another hill station. I always used to compare Pune and Bangalore in the similar parameters as far as climate is concerned. You can never expect, when it will rain in Bangalore. But, due to increase in population, Bangalore has lost the charm and the climate has definitely become hot.

Food…

One thing, I love the most is food. The favorite past time of Bangloreans is definitely eating. Hence, you would find lot self service joint in. Apart from that you have lot of Dhabba’s in the outskirts of Bangalore, which serve really mouth watering Chinese and Punjabi dishes. One of the best Gobi Manchurian, I ever had in my life is in Bangalore. Also, I would like to mention that, the self service joint, serves one of the best dosa’s. All the Dosa’s served here have a special ghee put on top. It’s actually white in color and I really don’t know what exactly you call it, but it really tastes superb. Hence, next time you visit, Bangalore don’t forget to taste the Dosa and Gobi Manchurian.

Pubs…

According to my cousin, Bangalore has more than 300 pubs in and around the city. No doubt, it’s called the city of Pubs. Most of these pubs are open mostly till 11.30pm, I think it is the permissible time. Hence by 11.30, the cities, freak crowd have to give good night to their friends. Some of the well known pubs are Black Cadillac

Underground, Pubworld, Guzzlers and Nasa.

Cricket is a religion…

India is a country were definitely cricket is a religion. Bangalore is not left behind, as far as cricket is concerned. In the last decade, it has given some really great players, like Kumble, Srinath & Dravid. I would love to share something which, I would never forget. It was during the cricket 99 world cup, I was at Bangalore. My cousin and his friends used to watch the entire Indian match together and after the match we would go for celebrations based on the result. Everyone knows that India thrashed Pakistan during the world cup and that night I would never forget. We all went in my cousin’s tata automobile van, and went about screaming towards the M.G. Road, and man what do I see their, half of the city was their screaming , “Hindustan Zindabad” and what not. It was really one, good scene to remember for life.

SOME HARD TRUTH (Please take it in right spirit)…

Back Bone of Bangalore…

Really, to speak of back bone of Bangalore is nothing but Infosys. The only reason, why people call Bangalore a “Cyber City” is Infosys. Remove Infosys and Wipro and Bangalore remains nothing but yet another Hyderabad. Infosys has been the major force in bringing some international companies to Bangalore. There are lots of companies like DELL, Motorola, and Oracle putting up a shop here. Dell has put a 300 seater International Centre to serve its international client. In spite of having so many software engineers churning out, from Bangalore, there are an amazing 60% people in all these companies coming from various cities in India. The only reason is the quality of man power. That doesn’t mean, I am questioning the capability of the local people. Even the Sr Level managers working in these major companies are from other cities. To be very straight people here can learn Peoplesoft, SAP for a meare 1,500 Rs. Hence you can’t expect really quality trained professional.

Building bridges…don’t reduce the traffic…

The major problem in Bangalore is commuting. The buses in Bangalore are one of the worst I have ever seen. None of these bus service wait at the stop, they will wait at least 50metres away from the stop. You will find, the worst rash drivers here, no doubt Delhi lead this race again. None of the buses has proper number plates and you would never understand which bus goes where.

The cops here are the most un-cooperative cops you will ever find. Firstly they would never speak to you any another language apart from Kannada. I don’t say, I speak with accent with them but if not English at least the National language, Hindi should be must for all the cops. We are Indians first, then bangaloreans or mumbaite. There are no proper traffic rules, you would find, vehicles taking turns without any signal. Especially after 7.30(You would find the city half dead) you can see, people doing all kinds of stunts as far as driving is concerned. Hence, after 7.30 beware, you might suddenly see, some one taking a right turn without even giving a signal.

Bangalore, like Mumbai got a big fad of building some beautiful bridges, but that didn’t help the traffic at all. I don’t say mumbai’s traffic is good. At least in Mumbai, there are some rules which are definitely followed. Guys, understand, you will find traffic throughout the world, what I am talking about is the rules.

I can speak for pages about the auto rickshaws. If, they come to know that you new to Bangalore then you are really finished, like Delhi, these guys only speak the language of 100s. You tell them to any destination and they would say with their typical style, “Sir, it will be 75Rs or 100Rs.” I have one of my cousin staying in Bansankri, if I am not wrong it’s not more than 6 to 7kms from Indira Nagar, I asked this auto rickshaw guy, how much and the flat reply was “Sir it will be 150Rs”. I asked, him what about the meter, he gave me the most convenient reply, sir we don’t operate on meters.” This is not the only experience there are many such experience.

I love this city for Food and the climate, apart from that this city needs to really improve in all areas of infrastructure like roads and good housing for all. Most important do, a raid on all the institutes teaching on illegal software’s and please for god sake control on number of people getting into just coding and programming. Improve on the Communication and Interpersonal skills, this is where they lack. You don’t need to be just good on books, but you need to improve your other skills too.

This city will just remain Hype, unless and until the government doesn’t open up and look at other facilities. I am recommending this city for food and climate, apart from that this city really has to come a long way as far as being the next COSMOPOLITAN(Forget being a Cyber) city.
