There is definitely something awe-inspiring about Bangalore! The modern-ness as well as the ancient charm that Bangalore seems to have a good blend of makes it a city well-liked by the young trendy kind as well as the more senior citizens.
I went to Bangalore in 1997 and was there till 2000. At the end of it, I did not want to leave the place. It was as though I was leaving the place where I had lived all my life.
Before I get on into sentimental details about my time in Bangalore, like I always do in my reviews, let me tell you more details on how/when/where/what of Bangalore!
A pleasant time to go to Bangalore would be around Oct-Nov...before the winter, and after the rains. Although, Bangalore has pretty decent weather throughout the year! However, the reason I say Oct-Nov is that if you are going as far as Bangalore, I would suggest going up to Mysore and Ooty as well.
Depending on your age/liking, there are different things/different places that you could visit in Bangalore! From the pubs and discos to the temples; from shopping arcades and malls to historic places...there is a spattering of just about everything.
Ah...if you can make it when the 'Flower Show' is on, make sure you go there! However, I think this happens around Aug 15th and Jan 26th. Someone correct me if I wam wrong on this!
Trusting a rickshaw for travelling from place to place would be an expensive proposition, and I wouldn't recommend that! As for the bus transport...forget it...I think the government itself has forgotten it!!! ;-) I personally prefer to get one of those tourist taxis that charge you for the amount of time you use them for. I did that once...I took a taxi and drove around for 6 hours--there were 4 of us...and we paid only 250/- I thought it was worth it!! Hey..but I am talking about if you are holidaying there..and if you are going in a group! Otherwise take the rick itself!
Places you must see:
Botanical Gardens, Lalbagh
Kemp Fort (not so much for the shopping as the seeing! It is an awesome p(a)lace!) ;-)
Commercial Street (after about 7 PM on Saturday!)
Walk down M.G Rd..from one end to the other
There are several more, but these used to be my favourite haunts!
