I am sure Central needs to introduction. As a fashion store they are quite okay - they do maintain a good balance between affordable and exclusive. They do have a good selection of brands and apparel though there are few occasions where I do not find what I am looking for. Sale and offers are quite frequent and sometimes I have come across great bargains. That's where the good part ends, now let me share my narratives on the negatives.
To begin with, the place feels is cramped and crowded and almost feels like a flea market. Walking space is very limited and there'd be people pushing you, bumping into you. The floor areas are quite disorganized and sometimes there'd be an array of random stuff lying around on walking areas. But there's nothing to spoil your shopping like the salespersons on floor. They are nosy when you don't need them, and they are clueless when you need them.
An example: I am in the watches section, looking at the displayed watches, the prices and brands are displayed on the labels. The first person comes in with an uneducated "Looking for what sir?"
Do you really need to ask me what I am looking for? Or do you expect me to be looking for perfumes in the watches section? I am annoyed, but refuse him politely and continue looking at the displays. Yet another unwanted helper pitches in. I am further annoyed but keep things calm and I ask him for a particular Casio watch model.
"Casio counter is over there sir, they can help"
Of course I know where the Casio counter is located, I can read the labels and I can locate it. Do I really need you to poke your nose?
I walked over to the Casio koisk and was looking at the displayed model, third person chimes in with unwanted help. I again mention the same model number.
"Oh, we dont have that watch sir".
Great, so you need four salesmen to poke their nose just to tell me that something I am looking for is not avalable? Can't I check out the display myself and get to know the same thing? And just incase I'd need your help, I can definitely approach the concerned person.
The clothing section is no better. You are not allowed to look around - there would be an army of nosy salespersons poking your nose even if you walk around. So, after encountering three such "needless" solicitors, I reach the jeans section and walk to Wrangler kiosk. I ask the salesman "I need a pair of Wrangler Millard jeans, thirty-eight, charcoal grey color". He pretends to search among the displayed products and proceeds tell me:
"that size is not available in charcoal grey color"
"Then what colors you have?"
"It's displayed here sir"
"You don't have charcoal color in your stock/warehouse"
"No sir, whatever we have is displayed here"
Limits - I know it's the wrangler counter, I know where the products are displayed, I can see what colors are available and I know how to read the labels and find the size.
So, what good do these people serve except poking their nose around? What are thse guys getting a salary for? I definitely appreciate a bit of personal space while shopping around and these guys made sure spoiled my evening being poked around. I really hope Central is reading this - they have got their customer care fundamentals wrong! Instead of having an army of salespersons poking their noses into everyone's business, customers would much appreciate if there are fewer, but quality salesmen - people who are knowledgeable and offer some actual help instead of just stating the obvious.
