The Film:

It is said that the script of the film was written 40 years ago when Chopra Saab visited an old peoples home, which inspired him of parent?s loneliness and hurt over children?

The Plot?

Enter Raj Malhotra, an accountant of ICICI bank, a happy man, who starts his day by taking both his dogs for a walk in the park. On his return home, he is just about to knock on the door and the door opens up to reveal his wife Puja smiling.

The audience immediately realises the unconditional love between these two.

A few minutes into the film we realise the couple have 4 sons, which are played by Aman Verma, Samir Soni, Salil Chadha and Nasir Khan and 3 daughter in laws played by Suman Ranganathan, Divvya Dutta, Arzoo Govitrikar, a grand-daughter played by Rimi Sen and a grandson played by Master Yash.

The parents Raj and Puja are missing their children and decide that they will invite them for Holi and talk to them, about the future of the family. They phone all 4 sons and they agree to re-unite for Holi. The song ?Holi Khele? is played.

After the celebrations, both parents sit down and tell the children that since Raj has now retired, which son is willing to keep them. The children are astounded with them parents asking for support. Raj and Puja leave the children and go into the garden.

Back inside, the children are panicking. The eldest daughter-in-law doesn?t want to take in her father and mother in law, as it would spoil her lifestyle, the second doesn?t want the burden, third makes her own excuse. It?s then they make a plan, they will ask tell the parents that one parent will stay with the two older brothers for 6 months and then stay with the two youngest for 6 months, SEPERATELY! In their minds they think that their parents will refuse and they wont have the burden of two ?old? people.

Their plan goes accordingly to plan as Raj is angry and cannot bare the fact, their sons, who are supposed to be their four pillars are thinking of separating their mother and father. Yet, the mother manages to persuade him that their children mean no harm.

Emotionally, they manage to leave home, accompanied with the sons that were giving them shelter only to release the fact that the sons that they sacrificed their dreams for, the sons that they gave money to, when they needed money, don?t care about them.

The father is ignored and treated like an object as when going in to the house, the son and daughter in law take in their suitcase and leave his on the road, but still Raj doesn?t blame them and carries it himself.

The mother is treated with no grand respect; she is given the room of the servant who quits her job after learning that she will have to sleep on the kitchen floor. She feels trapped and lonely without Raj and Raj the same.

Raj then meets the Guraji couple Paresh Rawal and his wife played by Lillette Dubey in their café as Paresh invites him to come and visit them. The couple are fun and remind Raj of Puja whom he deeply misses. One day Paresh tells him he should write a book on his life, as it would set an example to the youth about eternal love. Raj agrees and starts typing up his life on paper using the Title?Baghban.

Back at her eldest sons? house, Puja spots her granddaughter in the arms of a boy and realises the kind of clothes she wears. She refuses to listen to her Grandmother and says it?s my personal life. Problems start but then Puja follows her grand daughter to the disco where her boyfriend rips her top. Puja in anger grabs his top and slaps him. This wins the heart of her grand daughter who is ashamed at her own actions?

The music is beautifully embedded into the film especially the title song, which touches the audience?s heart. Salman and Mahima make a wondersful, touching appearance, watch out for their scenes, ive kept them a secret!

The rest of the film awaits you?so what are you waiting for? Find out the climax of this emotionally packed family saga?WATCH THE FILM AND ENJOY!

and ask yourself the question...

Can you depend on your family?
