When u enter the lane of tulloch road at night, u can see only one happening place. u guessed it rte, Bade Miya! Cars r parked on both sides of the road & ppl hvng food on bumpers or bonnet. a rare but nice sight to watch! Ppl frm all spheres of lyf, d rich & d non-rich cm here 2 ve food. Lets begin my journey.
Location: We came to churchgate & took a cab frm dere. Hardly 20 bucks. the location is pretty easy. locate d barista at colaba causebay & take d immediate left road goin down towards d sea-shore. D moment u enter d road. d 1st road on d right hand side is d Tulloch road. u wont find nething on that road except bade miyan. covering more than half the street. 60-70% u may say.
Ambience: Once u enter d road, d immediate thought that comes to ur mind is d song from kala bazaar: khoya khoya chaand, khula aasmaan Aankhon mein saari raat jaayegi. chaand Taare chale, nazaare chale Sang sang mere voh saare chale(put ur head up & u cn c d stars walkng along wid u s u walk thru d road). Chaaron taraf ishaare chale(ppl trying to call d waiters wid signs). Kisi ke to ho jaao(ppl asking to b heard by d BUSY waiter) Oh ho ho, khoya khoya chaand, khula aasmaan Aankhon mein saari raat jaayegi! There r tables along d footpaths surrounded wid chairs on both the sides. On an average I guess there were 25-30 tables & each table hvng a min capacity of 4 ppl. Wt ws more good to c ws, ppl who came in car & cudnt find place 2 sit! Family walas sat inside d car & had food & d current young generation either had d cars bonnet or d bumpers up & using it as a table 2 ve food! On a weekend, u might have 2 wait for 20 mins 2 get a table.
Food: Though m a veggie, ve been in Christian skul & knw d aroma of non-veg food & man, its like heavens seriously. Dont take me on d wrng side & I guess majority of d ppl had chicken there & d nxt on cards ws seekh kabab. Neways, thats all I cn say 4 d non-veg readers& Now cmng on the veggie part. not much on cards for us but u wnt b disappointed with the small range. Coz at d end of d day, taste matters. We had paneer masala, alu bhurjee, veg seekh kabab, paneer bhurjee & rumali rotis. I ve nvr had alu bhurjee & was shocked to c dis on d menu. But believe me, it was d best dish of d lot! It was tangy. d khatta meetha types& tomato style taste but without tomato & so dat kinda tingy. D masalas were on d mark, nt more nt less. it ws my fav there. Veg seekh kabab, waaalllla, a bit on d chilly side& but very good taste& All d paneers were so so so soft. felt s tgh I ws tchng thick malai. dat soft. oh man! These ppl surely knw d wy 2 cook! Panner bhurjee ws a little on d drier side, jus a little bt was tasty. Paneer masala was also equivalent tasty. D best part ws dat d paneers taste(on a standalone basis) ws fantastic! Now d RUMALI ROTIs, I ws reminded of a famous(this kinda joint) of bangalore& where my frnds & I use 2 ve food(same types) & d rotis were soft & hot! One shld c d size of d roti, a normal person cn ve 2 of them. Only negative point, d foods quantity is on the lesser side.
Service: D staff was very well mannered. Poor fellas were really wrkng damn hard on the weekend; when it ws really busy & hectic. They hardly misplace an order which is amazing & also remembers 2 bill u exactly 4 d food that u had& not more not less. Very courteous & helping staff& I think mny of the hi-fi hoteliers need 2 train their staff wid d manners & serving etiquette frm these ppl.
Pricing: For the four of us, the bill ran upto Rs.500/-, including some soft drinks & we were filled 2 d throat wid d food! Not expensive at all considering the delicious food! On our way back, we had a pan beside churchgate station which summed up d activity for the night! I wouldnt mind recommending this place to fellow foodies& even if u dnt like 2 ve street food, jus go there 2 witness wt de call s D STREETS!
