When the famed Yash Raj banner announced themselves with yet another movie I was quite sceptical on the entertainment worthiness of it. The plot seemed very common and on the first hearsay of rumours it didnt seem to offer anything new. Previous offerrings from Yash Raj were nothing to gloat about too. But something made me watch this movie and I must say I throughly enjoyed it.

Bachna Ae Haseeno has an easy going story with fillings of romance, drama, comedy and lotsa glam dolls. The plot isnt anything to go gaga about but the way Siddharth Anand has given the movie his touch, it makes for a worthful watch.

We have Raj, played by a very impressiveRanbir Kapoor who lives the typical life of a hip youngster aiming to woo girls with his natural flair and charm for sole reason of having a shikhar. The only thing that he doesn't want is any commitment in the relationship. This attitude of his makes his life revolve around 3 ladies at 3 different stages of his life.

Raj is young, fun loving and is on a Swiss trip with his buddies. Apart from the views of mountains-cows-mountains he hasnt have had any adventure worthwhile boasting about. In the same train is Mahi (Minisha Lamba)who is a die hard fan of DDLJ and firmly believes that a Rajlike handsome chivalric guy is definitely made for her. But naturally, the story makes both of them meet and this is when Raj starts his Rajgiri. He flirts with the lissome lass like there was no tomorrow and she falls for him hook, line & sinker. Her belief having come true she even visualizes that Raj will come to Jalander and whisk her away instead of some Pujabi munda hand picked by her dad. Now, Raj being Raj, doesnt have any intention of keeping his promises (for they are made to be broken) and shares his adventure with great machismo to his pals. Mahi overhears the conversation and her heart breaks into tiny li'll pieces.

Six Years later Raj is now graduated and has a hip & cool job as a game designer at Microsoft. He has his own bachelor pad too, whose adjoining wall is very lucky to have a hottie neighbour. True to the phrase love-thy-neighbour Raj now hooks his line onto Radhika (Bips) who is an aspiring & upcoming model. Things go hotter and sooner than they realize they are living-in. To put it in Raj’s words “living together, sharing everything except being married…cool na”. Raj is soon promoted to a higher role in Sydney and since our lover boy doesn’t have any intentions to flying Radhika on his lap he tries his best to dump her in Mumbai. Things soon start going haywire and Radhika aint going nowhere.

Ranbir’s true talents show up here like a gem. His facial expressions, his inability to shake off the commitment, his comic timing all stand out here. This is when you realize that the boy’s got loads of talent which when polished will make for a wonderful doze of entertainment. His sidekick in the whole movieSachin (Hiten Paintal) is equally good especially when he is giving devious ideas for avoiding Radhika.

Just as in his 1st relationship, Raj dumps Radhika right on the night of their marriage date and flies away, where else but to Sydney mate. The lover boy carefree attitude continues here too when he meets Gayathri (stunning Deepika).

Now now…this is where the movie loses a wee bit of logic. We are shown the Gayathri is a Taxi Driver by night, who knows Taekwondo, has a ‘made in Jalander’ hockey stick in the boot and carries a swiss knife in her back pocket; studies MBA during day time and sometimes mans (or should I say wo-mans) the shop counter too.

Hmmm…is she the insomniac club’s president-for-life who never gets any sleep? Raj is attracted by the multi faceted damsel and suddenly his Casanova charm leads to a ‘I-love-her-want-to-marry-her’ state of mind. Raj proposes and Gayathri disposes, without any remorse. This is when Raj has a tit-for-tat, a bell gongs in his head and realizes how might have the other two ladies felt when he spurned them.

Rest of the crux of the movie is about confessions of Raj to the other two ladies, awakening of his soul to the wrong deeds done and how he seeks a pardon from Mahi & Radhika. His act of confession to Radhika and how she evokes vengeance and makes his life miserable to get that pardon is especially good. Climax is when you know if Raj finds his true love or not.

Overall this movie is worth watching once and manages to provide wholesome entertainment. It must be because Aditya Chopra has spared us with his kind of jaded 90's kinda direction and lets Siddharth Anand handle the reins.

Ranbir is a bundle of talent and has emoted very well. Minisha is quite ok, nothing to rave about. Bips has done a fine job and looks hot too. Deepika looks stunning but none of her acting effort needs to go into the easy-to-essay role. Music by Vishal-Sekhar is peppy and fun loving, especially the remixed title track (originally sung by Kishore da) is a great number. Watch out for Ranbir’s moves in this track. Cinematography is quite good, but could have been better. Swiss scapes aren’t shown in great glory, but the beautiful sunset captured in the climax makes for a fab wallpaper.
