In the land of kangaroos !!

I took a flight from Chennai to Sydney via Kuala lampur (I will write about the facilities(!) in KL airport in another review) in Malaysian Airlines.

After landing in the land of kangaroos – with the song from Indian (Hindustani in Hindi ??) lingering in my mind ,where kamal and manisha will be jumping around with the kangaroos ,I expected to see a few kangaroos roaming in the streets as cows often do in indian roads, the whole way from the airport to city – it looks bushy but there is no kangaroo in sight. Then I heard from my colleagues that it can be seen only in wildlife park and zoos (!).

So the first visit is the taraonga zoo, the entrance fee is around 20AUD(Australian Dollar) – luckily we went in the morning around 10Am and we stayed there whole day seeing kangaroos , few reptiles and kaola bears.

Then I visited the famous opera house, darling harbour and sydney harbour bridge – to climb the harbour bridge we have to pay around 100AUD – so I didn’t try that

Then we went to a hill station called Blue mountains – (do a search for blue mountains – you will land up with umpteen blue mountains all around the world),which is two hours journey by train and it is situated at an altitude of 1200m (half the altitude of our blue mountains – ooty),there I took a bus ticket for a whole day .which would take me around the interesting places in that place, I can get down at any place I wish, after an hour the bus will come back and pick me up to another area. There are lovely waterfalls and forests region is this area and there are skyriders to see the moutains and cascades. There are some dangers too, my friends removed their shoes after it has been wet,but two of them has been bitten by blood sucking monsters – leeches – the truth is you won’t feel any pain in your leg – unless you see them – you won’t know about it.When we are moving in the greeny forests regions, I remember at this juncture that 10(!) of the most posionous snakes in the world’s habitat is Australis ,phew – a nice thought at the right moment *,but thankfully we didn’t encounter any snakes . Actually I don’t want to scare everyone – it is really a refreshing adventure to walk in the forests.

Now about the people – apart from english – there are lot of chinese and srilankan tamils living here.

I heard sydney is one of the costliest city in the world – the rent for a furnished flat in the city ranges from 500 AUD upwards per week so people are generally living in the suburbs which is well connected by city rail networks. In the suburbs we can get all new Tamil and Hindi video cassetes.

The climate is fantastic here, even in the winter it won’t come below 5celcius – so if you want to settle down in sydney – it’s a good bet.

I think I talked about sydney instead of Australia. As I didn't visit the other cities in Aus, I have no right to give my opinion on other parts of Aus.

Have a nice trip :)
