Aquafresh Dental Whitening process. Does it really work? After a big glass of Merlot and noticing how purple my teeth were, I decided to brush my teeth and then remembered I had purchased this whitening kit the other day. Wanting to try it, I decided to open the box. There is a lack of instruction inside. Most of the information is already detailed on the box. Basically, put them on your teeth for 30 minutes and repeat the process for three days to see a noticeable difference.
Into Day One of my whitening process, I already did a big no-no on the box. I brushed my teeth beforehand. This makes your gums and teeth more sensitive. After opening up the trays, I was disappointed to find that the trays just cover the portion of your mouth where you'll actually notice your smile. Apparently those back teeth don't matter and will continue to remain yellow! Despite the possibility of two-toned teeth, I reluctantly inserted the trays, considering I'd have lost about$22 on sale at Target otherwise.
The trays themselves are not bad at all. I've tried the Rembrandt whitening system half-heartedly before(I think it was a month-long ordeal which I never completed), and these trays are quite comfortable in comparison. They come pre-filled with the gel, which has a minty taste to it - not bad at all. The gel does burn the tip of my tongue just a bit, however. I guess that can only mean it's working on my teeth!
Day Two into my Aquafresh Whitening Experiment, I've noticed some tooth sensitivity. Actually some rather bothersome "pangs" that shoot into my lower jaw, and so I've used my Colgate sensitive toothpaste throughout the day. Today I did not brush before inserting the gel. The tips of my tongue burns a little from it yet, but otherwise not so bad. I did notice yesterday that my teeth felt very clean and without any plaque build-up - kind of like just having had teeth cleaned at the dentist. I can only assume there is some form of peroxide in these. Are my teeth noticably whiter as of day two, however? No. I think I'm starting to lose my consumer confidence.
Day Three. my 10-year-old tells me, "Hey mom, your teeth aren't as yellow!" Yes, my teeth do appear a couple shades whiter after my last dose. A friend of mine called me today while I had the whitening trays in my mouth to say she has tried them and they worked really well for her. She mentioned that while it depends on why they turned yellow(ie, drinking coffee versus yellow from age), usually to maintain the whiteness after you get them as white as you like, just use the product once a week.
