I have visited Apollo Chennai first in the year 2001. I was a college student at that time and it was my first visit to Cheanni too. We went there to check up my father's condition.
The hospital looked really great and I was just amazed with the concept of getting all the treatments under one roof.
The concept of multi specialty hospital was not very popular at that time, and people from eastern part of India used to visit Apollo for better treatment. It was not possible in Kolkata to get all kinds of treatments under one roof.
We heard lots of good stories and experience of Apollo and decided to go there as advised by our family doctor. My father had started developing lots of issues at comparatively young age. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with complete heart block where we consulted a Dr. Robert Mao just for a routine heart check up. It was completely shocking and unprepared for us though as we went there for his other ailments.
Again, Dr. Mao gave his valuable advice and mentally encouraged us. We had to extend our stay in Chennai for the procedure. However, the operation got 100% successful and a pacemaker was implanted on his chest. Everything was quite OK and though we were afraid, but we whole heatedly thanked to the Almighty and sincere support and help to the Apollo Stuffs.
After six months, there was a follow up work, and he was doing good. So, it was a good experience in Apollo. Yes, it was a bit costly even 14 years back, but the kind of treatment and professional support we got from them were awesome!
Later, I visited the hospital again with my Aunt having severe problem of Rheumatoid Arthritis.She was also treated by a group of specialized doctors and completely cured. I had to take her every where in the hospital while she was sitting on wheel chair, and now she is completely fit and manages all her domestic chores. So, she thanks Apollo every time I go to visit her.
Nowadays, we hear so many stories even from close friends and relatives about this respected and esteemed hospitals, it is really unfortunate that once such famous brand is now not at all respected by the people for their changed attitude.
They were costly, but there were the best. I still believe they are best and you need to be prepared to spend money. But, we also expect dedicated and professional attitude from them.
