INTRODUCTION

I watched this movie neither due to my wish to see it nor due to recommendations from some one. I just watched it only because I got the chance to see it free and it was almost a horror movie. ''Aparichithan'', meaning ''The Stranger'' was completed in the location of Nelliampathy and got some natural beauty along with the horror.

This is quite a different movie and may be the first horror movie of Mammooty, but the movie failed to raise upto the standards that we all expected. Atleast it was still a bit better than the other Mammooty movie ''Vajram''.

Most my friends were disappointed after this movie, but I was not - because I didn't spend the money. The major problem of this movie is that it got a storyline touching nowhere and all the special effects and ghosts are successful in making us laugh rather than scaring!

THE STORY

Three female students - Meenakshi (Kavya Madhavan), Simi Samuel (Karthika) and Devi (Manya) were the uncrowned queens of the college, commonly called ''Charlie's Angels'' before they got under suspension as they tried to leak the question papers on the previous day of the exam.

They had to leave the place and they were too afraid to go home in such a situation. Simi's lover and fiancee Thomas Chacko (Vineeth Kumar) finds them and sends them to an old mansion where they finds a board which they uses to talk to the spirits and they are kicked out of there too. Chacko plans a trip with them and they reach Nelliampathy.

Mammootty enacts the role of Reghuram, a wild life photographer from the National Geographic Channel with a very poor hairstyle. These students meet the wild life photographer who seems completely drunk and was a disturbance for the group initially. But later they become good friends, but suddenly he disappears.

When we take the flash back, we see Reghuram reaching this hill station. He meets Kalyani (Mahi Vij), an adivasi girl, daughter of the village chief. After death of the chief, a series of incidents take place.

How are these incidents related to the students? Why is Reghuram with them? What does he want? All questions are to be answered in the movie, but it does leave some hollow parts in the story.

PERFORMANCES

Mammooty has given quite a good performance despite of the fact that the role was too ridiculous. The three girls Kavya, Karthika and Manya are good, but Kavya is the pick among them even if her character got a bit more importance in the movie.

Karthika has done a great job considering the fact that she has got only less experience from one or two movies. The comedy of Jagathy and Salim Kumar fails to add very much of any funny character to the movie as they may have expected.

Mahi Vij is quite good even if she have the language problems - she doesn't show any error in the performance. Vineeth Kumar is just OK even if he is very poor at a number of occasions. Rajan P Dev has done his small role quite well with the usual solid style. Don't even think about the special effects - too bad.

CONCLUSION

I would have hated this movie, but I saw this one after seeing the movie ''Vellinakshatram'' which was the most ridiculous one which made ''Apraichitan'' look like a good one. The movie got some good songs in it - ''Kuyil Paatiloonjaalaadum'' and ''Mausam Mausam'' are good.

What I had been thinking about this movie is that they had a really good theme, but they failed in developing it completely as it would have been. The expectations on this movie was so high that all were going for this one initially, but the number decreased later.....
