If you are one of those people who are totally repelled by punk and think rock music today is in need of a makeover, here is your antidote...
The new album American Idiotby Green day is a relief from the moldering modern rock phenomenon. It is evident that Green Day has come a long way since they first debuted a decade ago with Dookie. After lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist Mike Dirnt discovered Tre Cool, who fit the bill of their drummer, the hyperactive three-piece took the music scene by storm and there was no stopping them!(Excuse the exaggeration )
Their politically charged album American Idiotis mega-hyped for good reasons. It was released just two months before the elections in USA. Angst seemed to be a powerful asset for Billie Joe Armstrong when he transformed it into https://lyrics. The album follows a storyline. The protagonist evolves from being angry and rebellious to becoming thoughtful and reflective. The album consists of 13 songs including the willful American Idiot and their second single from this album which is currently in the top ten on the singles chart (also their anthem for survival) Boulevard of Broken Dreams. The song Holiday in the words of Billie Joe, is about Iraq. Give Me Novacainewas featured on the television program ER (for good reasons). The song Wake Me Up When September Endshas a softer and have a more profound meaning. Extraordinary Girlalso incorporates some Indian strings.
American Idiotis also one of the most lyrically subversive albums to top the charts. It was nominated for six Grammy awards earlier this year and bagged a Grammy for the The best Rock album. This only goes to prove that bands today can go on to make a bold political statement. The underlying message of American Idiotis that the leaders of our countries are no more at fault for the current state of affairs than the apathetic public. Media and the public are mutually dependant. We as people can do soooooo much better. And if the present post-war catastrophe isnt a loud enough wakeup call for change, I dont know what is!
