I visited Amaravathi in Feb, 2015 as a part of official schools survey. Today Amaravathi is being development as New Capital of Andhra Pradesh. Amaravathi situated on the bank of river Krishna in Guntur distt of Andhra Pradesh, is an ancient city rich with traditional sculpture art and wealth. This wealth has been displayed in Archeological Museum of Amarvathi. Lord Budha is in centre stage of this museum.
This museum showcases ancient art tradition of Amaravathi, life size standing image of Lord Budha, Maha Purusha Lakhana as symbol of great man, beautiful sculpture of Yakshi, Dharma Chakra and Bodhisatva. A full sized bull, called Nandishwara of Satvahan period is one of the main attraction in the museum. These all sculptures have been collected from nearby excavations. These depict the life journey of Lord Budha started from his palace. I was highly delighted seeing the sculptural wealth of Amaravathi.
Recently built, a very large statue of Lord Budha on a vast platform has become mark of modern Amaravathi(see photo). This place is being developed as confluence of ancient art and history and modern developments. This museum is a very attractive place for the people fond of knowing ancient art and sculptural history of India.
