Isnt that what Amar Chitra Katha means ?

my best friend in school and college.

I still rejoice when I discover lost(bounded)books of Amar Chitra Kathas in the cupboard while cleaning and stop all work and read the same stories for the nth time.

Its caters to all kind of Hero worshipping kids and adults. There are many books about Indian freedom fighters , Mythological heroes, Gods, historical figures and what not.

some of my best memories connected with it....

-Helped me win the first prize in school in 4th class , in a drawing competition where I drew a naughty krishna playing his flute.

-Won a fancy dress contest , again in school dressed as Meera (I just copied the cover picture of 'Meera' of A.C.K)

-Made my Grandma proud when I explained to my relatives the full story of Krishna , including the names of his 8 wives, sons and grandsons. Poor Grandpa !! when she gave him that nasty look and said..'' Listen to some Mythological stories from our grand daughter and learn ..... when you should be the one telling her some. ''

Well , the benefits I got from A.C.K are unlimited. Till date its my favorite book, the only one I can read start to finish. The best thing about A.C.K is the simple narrative style and the colourful unforgettable pictures.

Shiva, Arjun, Krishna, Ram and Draupadi are always blue generating a curious aura about them in the young minds.

Seeta, Rukmini, Radha, Parvati look divinely beautiful giving the children the feeling that they really deserved to be the consorts or spouses of the Almighty.

The demons always looked evil and oozed wickedness from every pore. Pictures of Mount Govardhana , Lanka, Himalayas or the battlefield looked so 3D that as I child I could never imagine them in any other way.

My personal favorites

Draupadi - very strong yet subtle potrayal of a Modern woman of ancient times.

Hanuman - great story about the most intelligent, brave, righteous humble servant of Lord Rama.

Ramayana - good narration and wonderful pictures of Ram as the good looking youth with perfect physique.

Krishna - A.C.K's best saga of love about the ultimate man who was lovable, musical, naughty and endowed with political tact and shrewd diplomacy to win and influence the epic war.

(among non mythological categories)

Prithviraj chauhan (I almost had a crush on him)

Laxmi bai (for months I rode on an imaginary horse with a sword in one hand and a doll tied to my back).

Surdas (I still cant imagine a poor blind bard sitting below a tree composing the lovable ''''''Maiya mori main nahi Maakhan khaayoo '''''' .

Amar Chitra Katha is truly an experience of a Lifetime that I shall always cherish. Keep reading :)
