I previously commented on Northwest, who have yet to return all of our luggage and we've been home now for almost four days. I also wanted to mention something about Alitalia. The mess really started with them taking all of our carry on luggage that we had packed to airline and homeland security standards. We had no liquids (even though I was traveling with a 3 month old and a 2 year old) no semi solids such as chap stick, deoderant, etc. The man at the counter when we checked in even let us see a copy of his memorandom stating what could and could not be in our carry ons...yet he still took everything from us. He was really rude to us and when we asked how we could carry diapers (he didn't want us to even take them) he told us it wasn't his problem. While we have been calling and calling trying to find out where in the hell our luggage is we also have tried to contact Alitalia. They recommended that we call Italy to speak to them directly, which my husband did....call that is, not speak to them. They have yet to pick up a friggin phone during their regular office hours. After living in Italy for 3 years I do expect those kinds of things to happen with small stores but not international airline companies. I'm getting to the point where I really think nothing is going to come of us calling for customer service...shocking. What happened to the days when it was important to a company that it's customers were pleased? I rarely complain, I have been to over 15 different countries and have flown all over the United States. Though there have been times that I have had a rough flight I have understood that there are sometimes circumstances that are out of the flight attendants control. Yet while we sat for over ten minutes, waiting to pull into our gate due to another plane making sure that someones luggage was on the flight due to 'new' security standards the woman behind us started to barf. She also was traveling with two small children, only she was all by herself. Her kids started crying and not one flight attendant asked her if she needed anything. We gave her a couple of the wipes that we bought (thank God we found them) in our layover. Come to think of it they didn't take a few extra minutes to make sure our luggage was on the same plane that we were? I suppose the whole security thing really wouldn't bother me so much if EVERYONE followed the same rules. It's been almost 5 years since the incident on September 11th and we still look as confused and disorganized as ever. As for Alitalia...I'm going to opt for paying more with a reputable airline than get a cheap flight through them. And as for the guy at the ticket counter....I can only hope that he'll get his.
