RETURN OF THE KING. Review on Aks

What do I say about Aks?It will be accepted by the discerning audiences who are not partial to unusual stories.We accept Hollywood thrillers to do with spirits,don't we?Well then,this will not be that hard to stomach.Amitabh bachchan's performance will see to that.It deals with the pursuit of a psychotic,Raghavan played by Manoj Bajpai to perfection.Amitabh plays Manu Verma who is in charge of the Prime Minister's security when he gets wind of a plot to kill the chief.His trail leads him to Raghavan.He manages to nab Raghavan and the death sentence is pronounced on him.Then the real trouble starts.That is Raghavan's spirit enters Manu Verma and he goes on the rampage.Amitabh has a field day doing justice to his role of the righteous cop as well as the wicked Raghavan.At long last there is a role for him to sink his teeth into and like a lock jawed bulldog he does not let go.We are inundated with an entire gamut of histrionics from Amitabh.The second half of the movie has to be seen with a tolerant eye.Only then you will be able to accept the movie in it's entirety.Nandita Das as his wife is very good and convincing.Essentially,it is a clash of the Titans as Amitabh and Manoj really come out with their best expressions.Manoj Bajpai's laughter chills you to the bone the first time you hear it ,but after a while it begins to start grating on the nerves.But it is Amitabh who really is great at what he does in this movie,play the nasty guy to the hilt.No wonder they call him an actor of essence.Raveena Tandon as Raghavan's moll is impressive in a few scenes.She looks glamorous in the song Yeh Raat.Kiran Deohan's cinematography is on par with the best the west has to offer.See the movie on the big screen only.And yes, the background score by Ranjit Barot is superb and brooding.See it to just see Amitabh back in his element once again.
