Unlike many other consumers, I am a great fan of AKAI electronic items. I had an AKAI VHS player way back in 1988, which I replaced by an AKAI triple changer VCD player. I also bought an AKAI 25 cm color TV, which I later replaced with an AKAI SUMO 29 TV. None of the products gave me any trouble and they were all very reasonably priced, as compared to LG, Samsung etc. I believe that AKAI does not believe in high profile advertising.. with celebrities and unnecessary frills. Because the cost ultimately percolates down to the customer.
My gripe is that by the time I really got to using my AKAI VCD player, VCDs became outdated and I had to go in for an AKAI DVD player. My VCD player and huge collection of VCDs became an anachronism. The AKAI DVD player, again, is just fine. but no, since past few months, I see that the tray goes inside by itself, even while I am putting a disc on it.. Possibly some electronic fault. However, I am too lazy and stingy, to approach a service center for such a minor problem. Recently, I bought a BLU-RAY DVD having about 20 films in a single DVD. The shopkeeper warned that I may need a special BLU-RAY player.. but I gambled and the BLU-RAY plays just fine on my AKAI player.
So all is well. Cheers to AKAI!!
