I purchased my Acer 5542 ASPIRE on November 2009 at Rs 27500.

SPECIFICATIONS: AMD Athlon II X2 processor M300 2.0 ghz and 1Mb L2 cache.

ATI radeon HD 4200 graphics(inbuilt, not dedicated)

15.6" HD LCD. 2 GB Ram. 320 GB HDD.

HDMI port(only laptop under 30000 Rs with HDMI port

Bluetooth and all the other common features like wifi and card reader.

1.3 Megapixel camera. Chiclet keyboard(only found in Apple and Sony Laptops)

Now regarding the AMD processor, in terms of comparing it with an Intel Core2duo or even the latest Core i3, I admit it does not hold a candle to them in terms of multi tasking. BUT, a daily work laptop, for movies, word, internet, HD movies, Adobe photoshop etc etc it worls flawlessly. I run 5 applications simulataneously and nothing happens.

Primarily people do not know much about AMD because computer dealers get better margins on selling Intel Processors and dealers bring about myths saying AMD heats up fast. None of it is true. My friends and me have used ACER AMD PC and deskotop for 3 years.

Reasons I purchased Acer 5542and particularly an AMD processor.

1) The 5542 Variant is the only one available without a Windows Operating system. All Intel based processors are preloaded or dealer loads the OS and sells. Hence this 5542 variant is 5500 Rs cheaper without a windows 7 or windows xp OS.

2) I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate from My Desktop PC, and running perfectly.

3) I watch HD movies on my TV. Dell HP Compaq etc have HDMI ports above 35000 Rs range

4) Excellent Wifi reception compared to other laptops.

5) Primarily when I bought this it was working out a massive 6000 rs cheaper than a similarly equipped acer with an Intel. End of the day its the same body, same panels, same screen even for Intels.

6) has 4 USB ports, and a FINGERPRINT READER(again only ACER has this at entry level price)

7) 8 months now and no faults.

CONS:

1) Heavy. 3 KGs is not exactly portable. Required to be held with two hands always

2) Build quality could not get better at this price. But even this is prominent only after carefully observing the lines.

3)Is consideredcheaper than other brands.

4) Similar laptop not available with a smaller screen size in the Acer Aspire series

5) susceptible to fingerprints like all laptops.

6) Dealers/resellers not great. They also focus on selling High end laptops. Infact my dealer did not know that such a variant exists! I had to go on the website and show it to them

7) Acer website for product information and service backup and other details what a customer needs is very poor compared to HP, Dell, and Sony.

8) Speaker sound could have been better.

Acers Timeline X new series starts at 38000 with Intel but is far better than many Sony and Hp models.

Hence in the entry level this variant is unbeatable. I have not yet faced any failure or improper functioning of my laptop, so cannot comment on the service aspect.
