when was the last time u really felt a lump in ur throat [ in this remix-starved music world ] which had the most basic nuances of music and a soul unmatched ? just listen to LUKA CHIPPI from RDB n u will know what effect can music have on one's mind if scored by an inhumane mastermind like A.R.RAHMAN !!!

when it comes to music at its haunting best, REHMAN is next to none. I have always believed that music can never be felt at its best without the essence of a situation, a visual. and thats where A.R.REHMAN is a cut above the rest. his music simply defines the situation to the maxim. U can easily take a anu malik romantic number from har dil jo pyaar kerega n place it in chori chori chupke chupke but with rehman, the songs are genuinely distinguished. now try to get it. REHMAN'S instuments' use may repeat but not the spirit. his music can lift one morale [ dhakka laga bukka from yuva ] as equally as it can define the pathos of an addled lover [ ae ajnabi in dil se ]. having said this, I m not belittling anu malik's talent. just that anu has somewhat failed to surprise us with his songs off late.

just listen to rehman's compositions in yuva n rang de basanti. I bet u can escape the charisma of his 21st music and its innovativeness. I wonder why the songs of yuva were not a big rage, considering the fact that YUVA n RDB almost had the same plot, same feel n the same freshness in its score.

i dont know how many have u heard FANAA [ from yuva ] completely. the bass level rehman has used in this song and esp. the way he uses himself to render those classical raga while that haunting music plays in the background is far beyond any other current composer's thinking [ except for shankar ehsaan loy to an extent ]. similarly, one can just gasp when rehman just takes over from lata mangeshkar in the last 2 min of LIKA CHIPPI. its unbelievable how he managed to execute that tune with the basic indian instruments like tabla, harmonium and flute [ flute is genuinely rehman's trademark ].

but the biggest achievement on rehman's part is that he has simply changed the face of music for we indians. at a time, when the so called "melodious" music of NADEEM-SHRAVAN began to sound a tad monotonous in the early 90s, REHMAN entered the industry with an earth-shattering score as ROJA. the title track is just unforgattable. he hasnt looked back ever since.

many people complain of his music being "SOUTH-INDIAN". here is my question to them - HOW DOES IT MATTER ANYWAYS IF IT IS THE BEST FROM THE LOT ? may be I m right now sounding a bit biased [ as I myself am a south-indian ] but the inevitable truth is that rehman's music will linger in one's mind, no matter where the person belongs to.

but how on earth can I write about rehman n not mention DIL SE ? the spirit that the songs of this mani ratnam flick had were immensely moving. be it the energetic CHAIYYA CHAIYYA, the subtly intriguing SATRANGI RE or the haunting AE AJNABI, each song had a gigantic impact on one's soul. SAATHIYA, TAAL [ his best score ever ] LAGAAN, THE LEGEND OF BHAGAT SINGH just reetirate the fact that rehman's magic is unparalled. the pain of missing one's ove in MERA YAAR MILA DE from SAATHIYA [ as in NAHIN SAAMNE from TAAL ] is so well composed that u cant help having gooseflesh.

SWADES n ONE 2 KA 4 have some of the most under-rated songs ever. just watch SWADES n the songs will grow on u to no end. cant say about its popularity, but SONA NAHI from 1 TWO KA 4 is one of the most melodious songs by rehman. the best albums by rehman are RANG DE BASANTI, TAAL, DIL SE, YUVA [ surprised ? ], and SWADES.

REHMAN is simply a god's gift to indian music lovers. not only he looks like bal krishna [ as gulzar saab says ], he perhaps has brought down on earth some of his powers in the form of music to entertain all of us for years. I know I am doing this very lately, but to cut the story short........

A.R.REHMAN IS THE GOD OF INDIAN MUSIC !
