If you are looking for authentic Bengali cuisine in Kolkata, 6 Ballygunge Place is the place to be. Located in the heart of South Kolkata, the restaurant carries it's address as it's brand name. 6 Ballygunge Place offers you the best in Bengali cuisine with an attractive buffet spread.

Location: The restaurant is conveniently placed in a bustling locality in South Kolkata. It's only a 10 minutes walking distance from Gariahat crossing. You can also get rickshaws to this place from the Cornfield Road crossing in Ballygunge. There are always a few taxis waiting outside the restaurant. So, after a heavy meal, you may just skip walking and get into one!

Ambience: Designed to resemble a building from the golden olden era, 6 Ballygunge Place gives you a cosy homely feeling from the moment you step in. The outdoor is decorated with arc like glasses in top of the windows, which is a reminiscent of old Kolkata. The interior is well decorated with comfortable sofas and chairs. The buffet spread is conveniently placed, so that all the guests can access it with ease. The warm lighting adds to the warmth of the place.

Courtesy of Staff: The staff is courteous and well mannered. From helping you to select the choicest food, to serving you with that extra care, to assisting you with the menu items, the restaurant staff is ever helping.

Food: Now, comes the most important part - the yummylicious food that's on offer. All ingredients of a traditional Bengali menu are available in 6 Ballygunge Place. The restaurant has a great buffet spread to satisfy all gourmet. The price too is reasonable. You can also go ala-carte if you wish. Both vegetarians and non-vegetarians can get a taste of exotic Bengali dishes cooked to perfection by master chefs. The menu has a great variety of food. Items on the buffet are rotated from time to time to avoid monotony. So, everytime you visit, you may find a new speciality on offer. Here's listing a sample buffet spread for you:

* Your lunch/dinner starts with a welcome drink of Green Mango Jaljeera Juice. It's tasty and twangy and serves as an appetizer too!

* Next on offer is Luchi (Bengali Puri) with the veg/ non-veg dish of your choice. Luchi will be served on the table, while you can get hold of the Sabji/Meat from the buffet spread. I will recommend Aloor Dum (Dum Aloo) or Panthar Mangsho (Mutton Curry) with it.

* Once you are done with Luchi, you can proceed to the buffet spread. It's a comprehensive menu which consists of Aloo Bhaji, Plain Rice, Daal, Mixed Vegetables, Fish Curry (Paabda or Parshe Fish is the most common in the menu), Fish Paturi (Smoked or Baked Boneless Fish cooked with mustard inside a Banyan Leaf. You are most likely to find Ilish Paturi, Bhetki Paturi or Prawn Paturi), Chicken Curry or Gandharaj Chicken (Shredded Chicken cooked with a dash of Gandharaj Lemon), Panthar Mangsho (Traditional Bengali Mutton Curry preparation), Chutney (Mango or Tomato) and Papad.

* Okay, if you are not full yet, here comes the lavish sweet dishes. From the famous Mishti Doi to Rosogolla, Sandesh or Gulaab Jamun, there's everything to satisfy your appetite. Sweet dishes on offer may vary, but the above mentioned ones are the most common items.

Highlights of the Menu Card: If you are going for ala-carte, a feature of the menu card might impress you. The first page of the menu lists the juices. Each juice is named after a street in which a famous Kolkatan lived. Interesting examples are Moyra Street (Address of Uttam Kumar, unurguably the biggest star of the Bengali Film Industry) and Bishop Lefroy Road (Address of the world wide acclaimed movie director Satyajit Ray). I really liked this, a wonderful way of paying homage to the people who makes Kolkata proud. Ala-carte also offers other specialities like Mochar Ghanto (A vegetarian dish made from Flower of Banana), Daab Chingri (Prawn cooked inside Coconut Shell) and much more.

I am a frequent visitor of 6 Ballygunge Place. It is a perfect venue to have a great lunch or dinner with your family. The food brings a smile to everyone, irrespective of the age group. Your special occasion can grow more special and memorable when you dine at 6 Ballygunge Place.
