Well this is going to be the most difficult job in the whole world………….But will do my best.Lemme list the 5 best books that I have ever read.Mainly these books are included in my list b’coz any reader will no longer remain the same after reading these books. There will be a definite impact on the reader’s mind which will last for years to come. Moreover these are books that we all would love to read over and over again.Anyone who has read these books would vouch for this .It does not go in chronological order .I am writing whichever comes to my mind first. So all are NUMBER ONE BOOKS OF MY LIST.The reader may find that there is one quality which is common to all the books that I have listed. No reader would have read these books just once. These are the books that one reads everytime one goes through extreme emotions. For example, Fountainhead is something I read everytime I feel I am down and depressed.God of Small Things is something I read everytime I find the book lying on my table or visit some house.(Atleast a few favourite chapters)

God of small things by Arundhati Roy:Well this should be read by each and every book lover. The language is so fresh, tender, beautiful. It is a simple story but so very well written that even after reading the book for the hundredth time, it does not fail to move me.”Kocchu Thomban”, (a chapter in the book) is one of the most beautiful piece of literature ever written.(Am I getting a bit carried away out here)No review can do justice to this piece of classic.Because this book cannot be read.It can only be felt, smelt, heard and seen. The world as seen through the eyes of children is so vividly described, that it leaves an ever lasting impression on the minds of the reader.Personally I think that Roy has delivered her best in her debut novel and no book of hers is going to be as good as this one.

The Fountainhead by AynRand: I read this book when I was around 16 years old and I just cannot describe the way it altered my way of thinking.Story of a rebel who stands up against the entire world and stands for his ideals. It is a story about an architect, Howard Roark who has to struggle at every step in his profession inspite of being the best in his field. An inspiring story.A very hard hitting story. The book can never leave the reader untouched.SELFISHNESS IS A VITUE.That’s what Ayn says and you cannot but agree with her.Atlas Shrugged is another book by the same author which should be read after reading Fountainhead because it is basically an extension of Fountainhead only.If I am not mistaken, this book has been voted by the readers around the world as “The best Book of The century” .Should be read by every teenager or before one becomes too cynical about life.

Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell:The mother of all Mills and Boons series ………….It is the encyclopedia from whose reserves the writers of Mills and Boons series draw from. But none of them come close to it.(Though I have read not more that three or four M&B novels)

The movie by the same name was also a big hit in the US.But I would say that the movie is not half as good as the book.It is a love story set in the backdrop of civil war in the United States.Though the book is labeled as racist, pro-white, etc etc, it still remains the most romantic book ever written. The way Rhett Butler is described in the book explains why so many women still look for that”swagger”, and “laconic grin” in their men even these days.Immensely readable 1000 page epic.A word of caution to all readers out there:PLEASE DON’T READ THE SEQUEL “SCARLETT”TO THIS BOOK BY ALEXANDRA RIPLEY.

Catcher in the rye by J.D Salinger:It is a book for all the cynics in the world.A sheer master piece. It is a slim volume, not  more than 300 pages. But anyone acquainted with Caulfield Holden;the protagonist will never remain the same and will feel that the whole world is filled with “Phonies”.It is a book about a teenager who does not want to grow uo and wants to remain a kid .As we read on, we realize that a Holden exists in each and every one of us……….

Trivia:The assassin of John Lennon was found with a copy of the same book. The book has been rated as “favourite” by  most criminals during a survey.

Bridges of Madison County by Robert James Waller:One of the most romantic books that I have ever read. The movie produced by Client Eastwood was also a big hit.Well, some may say that the book glorifies adultery, but still remains the most romantic story ever told. The language is beautiful and the book is all about love, love, love……….Must Read for all those who love romance and believe in love.Though it is written as a real story and the reader feels that the events that have happened are for real, I still have my doubts about the same.
