Worth watching. Review on 3 Deewarein

3 deewarein is a story about three prisoners thrown together by fate in a jail where they each await death sentences.

The first prisoner is Jaggu a sophisticated lawyer,a profession in which he fights for the truth.Jaggu has an amazing talent of poeticising his thoughts,he can also cook you a nosh up.After reading this thumbnail sketch of Jaggu its difficult to accept the fact that he is a murder.How can a well - educated man like Jaggu kill a person who actually meant the world to him.Jaggu's character does prove the fact that there is a thin line of demarcation between love and hatred and its very easy to hate someone you love the most.Love can transform an ordinary man into a cold - blooded murder.

The second prisoner is the cute Nagya,someone who plays hypnotising tunes on his flute,someone who enjoys gazing at the moon.The most striking quality of Nagya is his unshakeable faith in the phrase ''Satyame Vijeyte'',he teaches you to keep the faith even when all the odds are stacked against you.Nagya and Jaggu are close friends,he is all ears to Jaggu's poems though he cannot comprehend them.Now is it possible for someone like Nagya to kill his wife,a women whom he hated being with.

The third prisoner,Ishaan is someone who can bewitch you with his charm.Someone whose optimism is contagious,someone who believes in crossing the bridges as they come,someone who does not accept things the way they are,someone who believes in getting things done by hook or by crook.Ishaan accidently shoots the employee of a bank he was robbing.

Prison warden Mohan(Gulshan Grover) treats his prisoners like how a teacher treats his students.Mohan believes in reforming his prisoners.Mohan's prisoners unlike others are not punished but are rehabilitated.

The story progresses when the prison is visited by a documentary filmmaker who is interested in analysing the psychological trauma one goes through while he awaits his death sentence.While Chandrika spends the day trying to understand the psyches of the prisoners,at night she returns to her prison,her house.Chandrika is a victim of an abusive marriage,the only breather she gets from her torment is from the film she makes.Chandrika's relationship with the prisoners gives her the strength to confront her abusive husband. As the story unfolds we watch the prisoners each with his own story live their daily life some with hope of getting out of it while others just accepting it as their fate.

The climax of the movie is the most unexpected one,this movie is sure one of those movies which can be rightly termed as ''Different''.Jackie Shroff's dialogue delivery is just as awesome as his acting is,Kukunoor has proved that he can both act and direct in a way that is good enough to give his colleagues a complex,his Hyderabad urdu accent will sure make you laugh.Naseerudin Shah as usual has done a great job.

3 deewarin is a must see for those who believe in real cinema its got everything, right from humor to seriousness in the right proportions,a chef-d'oeuvre by Nagesh Kukunoor.To me watching this movie was a great break especially after the ennuying Mein Prem Ki Diwani Hoon.
