Story:

It is pretty well known that there are two -three types of movies like commercial and art which may not appeal to everybody but they generally hit the bullseye wherever their target audience is and in same way we should start categorising books into different categories as once again we have chetan bhagat coming out with yet another masala fare which may offend literary conneisseurs and intellectuals but would certainly entertain common people who are looking to come out of the boredom or dont have anything else to do

this latest novel from chetan bhagat is once again a masala potboiler with all predictable angle like romance, tragedy family problems and inter community problems thrown in but what makes this work as writing style is good, storyline and storytelling grippy which does not allow you to put your book down and almost forces you to complete book in one read and what is good that it also raises uncomfortable questions so my advice to you is that pick up the book is it is full paisa vasool but dont expect a masterpiece or you will be disappointed

story

the story of book basically is set against iim-a backdrop where krish malhotra a punjabi boy and ananya study and after circumstances leads to their meeting after which they become friends and gradually fall in love and plan to marry but problem arises as while krish is a punjabi while ananya is a tamilian and so to get their parents know each other they arrange a meeting at convocation which adds in a disaster as both parents end up insulting each other and so to be near ananya and convince her parents krish moves to chennai and tries to woe her parents by tutoring her geeky brother, making presentation for her computer challenged dad and arranging a program for her musically inclined mother and succeds in winning their approval and in similar way ananya wins trust of krish family by solving problem at a family wedding but cultural problems create havoc and lead to breakup but ultimately a villain in earlier chapter finally solves problem and ensures the marriage of krish and anaya

the book raises cultural problems, north-south divide, parents opposition to love marrige and lack of respect for other cultures and it also openly discusses family problem where son assaults his father which tug at your heart in end when father son patch up and things are resolved and one big thing it shows are different cultural system in different parts of india

I however would like to raise some questions about certain facts in story book

1- are students allowed to live in and have sex in hostels in iim

2-do people fall in love on the first day itself

3-please stop stereotyping and dont insult communities by offensive remarks

the book in all is good read and it also raises certain questions but is not a literary masterpiece
