With all the hype (& high- prices) of Valentine's Day - I really didn’t know where I could spend the special evening & not feel the dent in my savings. Am saving for a grand holiday this summer. And those of you who are familiar with the lifestyle of Delhi would agree that New Years Eve & Valentine's Day are major deterrents to savings. Till about 1900 hrs this Friday evening I was still calling up friends, pubs, restaurants finding out about cover charges, entry tickets etc. etc. Finally, I decided to just land up at GKII & figure out what to do. We found parking opposite this newly opened pub & the board outside said they still had Happy Hours on till 2030. So, we walked right in!
Ambience - Just another pub, with sofas on the corners, comfy stools at the bar, a DJ..... nothing very off-beat Service - The waiters wore orange overalls, most of them had Frenchies, they danced their way to the tables, took orders, knew all the numbers the DJ played & sang them as well!! This doesn’t mean they didn’t do their work well - all of them were excellent. They spoke good English - which is a little rare. Overall, they added to the ''party'' feeling, it was refreshing to see waiters happy doing what they do. Usually, they look bored, over-worked & under-paid. The service was not too quick, not too slow.
Menu - A mix of the regular & specials. On the Menu, they had everything including wine, Peach Schnapps - which was not available when I ordered for the same. So, I settled for a cocktail called ''Guys Love it'' which was a heady mix of all the spirits - without making it disgusting. It tasted good!
Price - Just a bit lower than the pubs in Delhi, but I guess that’s 'cause its just opened up. Prices & Popularity move in the same direction - once this place its popular, its gonna be steep!
Music - Nothing to talk about - the DJ played the most boring & outdated numbers. But maybe he's not always that bad’ cause when we asked him to liven up the scene, he said ''Today is Valentine's - I have to play this''. But I went thru his collection - he has good stuff.
Crowd - Mixed - not too many of the school/ college going kids - guess everyone just landed here 'cause they didn’t get place elsewhere or just for the heck of it - but I am sure everyone was having a good time.
Added Advantage - There was this cigar company called *&%^ (have forgotten the name) doing a promo there. They offered a cigar to all, which was great, & in return we just had to fill up a Feedback Form. The cigar was excellent - not too strong. I think I should try & find out the name & write a revu on that as well Overall, it’s a good place - as long as you can manipulate the DJ
