Now I know why you read my review in the first place :)! Manass in Malayalam means mind, though you can also link it to the heart (isn't that where the emotions reside!). Akkare means 'the other (far) bank' (of a river, I should say - not the UTI bank that's five km away!) So what does Manass...inakkare mean? Your guess is as good as mine. I think it's an expression that does not fit in everyday contexts. On the other shore of the mind/emotions/feelings? Thanks for reading and rating my review, mate. regards, Jay Read More

no point in stating that your review was excellent, coz everyone is saying it. I missed meesa madhavan. And I regret it. But I am known to miss such super duper hits. Sholay is an example - haven't seen it till date. I could visualize some of the scenes to great satisfaction, thanks to your f...abulous review and also to meesamadhavi's comments. please keep posting more. best wishes, JayRead More

Hi Shailaja, Top-class review. I haven't read this one, but I'd become a Dalrymple fan ever since I read 'The Age of Kali'. I wanted to read this book too, but kept postponing it. regards, Jay

Thanks, Shailaja and Sita. Shailaja, I agree with you on Vythiri (over Alleppey). Especially in May end, one can do with a little altitude. I'd been to Wynad recently (on an official tour) and stayed two nights at Harithagiri in Kalpetta, with visits to Pookot lake, Kuruva islands etc in betwe...en. I'm still thinking of writing a review on it. Harithagiri is nothing to write about, but the food was dream-like. Sita, I've seen most of the Sathyan movies, including those very old ones like Punnaram Cholli Cholli (which had Shankar, Rahman and Zarina Wahab and some good music by Jerry Amaldev) .. I think the name you were trying to get is 'Veendum Chila Veettu Karyangal'. Pl. don't think I am an exclusive Satyan fan. I've admired many like Padmarajan, Aravindan, Bharathan, KG George, Mohan, Sethumadhavan, Hariharan etc etc. I like Jayaraj too. His range is amazing. He started with a Sathyan-like movie, Vidyarambham, and went on to make adipoli stuff like Johnny Walker, good ones like Sopanam, and classics like Pairthrukam, Deshadanam, Kaliyattam etc. Who would've thought that Highway, Millenium Stars, Shantham and Karunam all came from the same director? I used to watch a lot of movies when I was in Kerala, especially when I was doing BTech there. Now it's one mallu film in a few months :-) Generally the frequency of watching movies has come down drastically. But I manage to strike a balance between Hindi, English, Tamil and Malayalam. By the way, your review of Munnabhai MBBS was fantastic. And one more thing - Lalettan is one of my all-time favourites :-D regards, Jay Read More

Foreword: I wanted to write a review for this movie and requested its inclusion in the database. The request was granted but the entry was made wrongly under 'Tamil Movies' category. For those who don't know already, Manassinakkare is a Malayalam movie - the latest release from Sathyan Anthik...Read more

Well, I gave ur review a VU because it is written superbly. Frankly, I dont think the advices therein would be really 'useful' to sane guys. But anyway you are admitting that it's written by an insane mind :-) Can I suggest something, when you go insane with your job, try changing it. Jokes ...apart, it was a delightful piece. cheers, Jay Read More

Shailaja, that was a marvelous piece. Wonderfully written. Being a keralite, I've often kicked myself for not visiting Alleppey. With these prices, I guess I should wait for the right occasion too. I still haven't decided where to go on my honeymoon in May end. You are giving me some irresistibl...e ideas! Thanks a ton JayRead More

A bold and honest review, to say the least. As someone pointed out, it isn't exactly a review of the movie, is it :-) Kamal has fascinated me from my childhood and still continues to fascinates. I rate his understanding of the language of cinema as second to none. To me, his personal life or vi...ews are of little interest, so no comments there. You write well, Sreya.Read More

I read Angela's Ashes without any pre-conceived notions about its author or its contents. The book was gifted to me a few years back by Luke Fennell, then my boss, who picked it up on a trip to US. I read the book within a couple of days, and have since then lent my copy to many of my friends an...Read more
