GPS service by itself is free, however, there is a option called Assisted mode - when its enabled you need a data connection, I use airtel live and dont pay any monthly charges, when i connect to it I am charged 30 paise for that connection.
You have the option to disable ass...isted mode but it would take more time to calculate your location.
I generally have assisted mode enabled as charges are negligible.Read More
