I used to use Sony ericsson 810i for almost 4+ years before I switched to this
mobile(Nokia C5). I purchased this phone early this month(September 2010) and
based on my few weeks of usage, following are my inputs:
Good:
Handset is rugged & reliable as expected from Nokia.
It has an amazing GPS, with free Ovi maps.
Good 3.2 megapixel camera.
Comes with a 2GB micro SD memory card.
Nice keypad to type away loads of messages.
Has good battery backup.
The above are the main things I wanted from my phone, apart from this - following are the other good features:
Can access facebook, twitter and youtube easily.
Can connect to office email( Exchange server).
There is preinstalled pdf reader, quick office.
At Rs. 8000, its cheap!
Bad:
Volume buttons are small, sunk inside and not easy to operate.( especially with cover).
Size of clear(c) button is too small(compared to Sony).
Joy stick is not as good as that of Sony.(Its similar to other Nokia phones)
Software UI design is too basic and lacks sophistication.
It does not even display the smiley icon!(most Nokia phones are like this).
Display is not bright and its difficult to see it clearly in heavy sunlight.
Music quality is not that great(Compared to Sony).
I think most of the bad things I have specified is in comparison to my old Sony ericsson
and nothing absolute.
Why I purchased:
I wanted to buy a GPS device for my car initially and later thought of having a
GPS device to carry on my frequent trekking trips, this phone has a good GPS with
free downloadable maps, so instead of having a stationary car GPS I can use this
everywhere.
GPS also gives suggestions on nearby petrol bunks and also has real-time directions for
walking(it can suggest routes through malls etc., unlike directions for driving where
only roads are allowed).
It also has voice guided navigation, initially had trouble to get it working but later was able
to do it after downloading voice guidance files and then activating it using the configuration menu.
Suggestions:
If you are looking for a smart phone with GPS at a reasonable cost then go for it.
Update after an year - November 2011
=========================
The phone is now officially dead:-) - here are some thoughts after an year of use:
GPS stopped working within 6 months and never recovered
Around a month back the phone dropped from a small height(while sitting in a chair) and that was sufficient to spoil it, the phone started to freeze intermittently and I had to restart after every call to keep it working.
On the positive side: This has given me a opportunity to buy a new phone! am looking forward to buy a android based one.
