When Director Milind Ukey, Paathshaala mein apna naam opening credits mein likhte hai, he also mentions his film school FTII along with his name. Indian film history mein iss se bada FTII ka apmaan nahi hua hai. After seeing the dismal Paathshaala, koi bhi akalmand aadmi uss film school mein ...Read more

@Sid, A school of thought believes that a movie is successful, if it can create an experience with its ambience, feel and atmosphere. Dev Benegal probably believes in this school - I don't.

@ Vibzi, underplayed transformation would be ok, but when it blatantly involves Shoppers Stop, Bausch and Lomb, etc - then it does seem discordant. And Vibzi, you are mentioning Superman and Gayab in one sentence !!! Duck - lightning will strike you, for such blasphemy :)

Road, Movie is a typical ‘Indian’ film festival movie. The story is painfully slow, and nothing much really happens - but some brilliantly shot sequences of Rajasthan and Kutch almost makes you forget these very basic flaws. But to begin at the beginning, Abhay is the son of a bald, herbal ha...Read more

@ LOVESREADING, Thanks for your compliments on my writing style. That apart, I must say that I appreciated the intent behind MNIK.

@HERMIT, Not really - I have seen Aparichit, which was completely over the top, and Secret Window was downright creepy, and quite violent. KCK keeps it very 'real' at all times. And, while I was not super kicked about KCK, I think Vijay Lalwani was a real 'craftsman' in his direction, and I would... love to see him handle a less complex subject.Read More

Karthik Calling Karthik, is a little difficult to summarize - Is it a love story with a mystery element, or is it a thriller with a strong romantic track? For most parts, KCK is a very well crafted movie, but sadly the attempt to keep the mystery angle ‘real’, distances the audience. And finally...Read more

Anshuman, I am an inveterate Tabu fan. I would pay Rs 200 to watch a slide show of her pictures at a multiplex, even if it was to the sound of a drilling machine as background music ;)

Thx for the VU Vikas. Debutant directors always raise hopes - but now they are increasingly dashing them also :(

Thanks Mr Mathur, but I think professionals like Aupama Chopra and Rajiv Masand do much better in summarising movies. But if I keep at it, I'll get there :)

Toh Baat Pakki, is based on the ancient formula of boy-meets-girl-they-fall-in-love-face-obstacles-but-finally-love-triumphs. The movie does attempt one small twist, by casting Tabu as the spanner in the works. But this twist is also diluted because Tabu could not have played an out and out vill...Read more

MNIK is about a Muslim's life in a post 9/11 world. However since this is a Karan Johar movie, the emotions have to be hyper amplified. Also, SRK has co-produced this film - so his character had to be a little “hat ke”. Result, Rizwan Khan, a Muslim young man suffering from Aspargus syndrome. Th...Read more
